Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Definitely not.

I rooted and custom rommed my last phone in order to improve performance and add features. This phone already has everything. I'm getting close to 5/6 hours battery life on top of that and I've disabled the Samsung crap I don't use.

The little touch whiz I do see annoys me a little like the dialer and calculator but I can live with that if it means keeping warranty.

But if you absolutely must go custom rom I recommend X-Note Rom from XDA. I'm not sure what functionality you will lose but from what I read it has everything.

Have been looking at this rom and keen on taking the plunge. How do you find it ?

No, no I didn't root and flash the Note 3 yet. When I'm on pc I will link you the reviews I saw. There is also a new AOKP Rom that apparently very stable if you want the stock/cm feel.

Edit: Here's the reviews

Have look at most of them. Only think that is still keeping me from doing it is this whole knox warranty thing. Note 2 wasnt even an hour in my hands and it got rooted.

Picked up my Note 3 today. I don't find the size to be that bad. Loving the size of the screen.

Question...Should I let the battery discharge completely and then charge it?

I didn't.

Not sure it's necessary with batteries these days.

Hasn't affected my battery performance as far as I can tell.

I was also told to let is discarge completely. But I loaded all my back up stuff on it so while it was connected to PC is was charging so that plan went out the window immediately.

That was true many years ago with old Ni-Cad technology - they developed a memory affect if you didn't fully exercise the battery. The new Lithium-ion (Li-on) and Lithium-polymer (Li-po) batteries that have been in use for many years now, do not suffer from memory affect.
I charge my Note-3 every night regardless of how much charge is left in the battery - usually it is on around 60% remaining when I put it back on charge for the night.

All of my previous smart phones that use lithium technology in their batteries - Samsung S3, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and original iPhone with the aluminium back which I bought in the USA 6 or 7 years ago are charged this way, and they still have full battery life. In fact, my original iPhone that is 7 years old has been on charge 24/7 365 days a year docked in a music centre for the past 5 years and still has full battery life if I take it out the music centre.

So I went to vote today and on my way out I met one of the IEC members who I recognized from my Sunday League soccer and as he shook my hand he dropped his cellphone which happened to be a Note 3. He had a flip case which popped off on impact with the tarmac (we were standing on the road). It was dark so it was hard to gauge the amout of damage but it appeared to take the fall quite well even with the stylus and back cover also popping out.

It was cringe worthy and I'm sure I would have a heart attack if that happened to mine!

Hopefully he activated his ADH warranty.

Actually Samsung (and other) smartphones take falls pretty well usually. They normally only get minor scraches or and or dents.

Thanks guys...I'm all up and running. This is a great upgrade from the S2!

So I bought a new 8000 mAh battery for my Note 3 this afternoon. This is more than double the capacity of the standard battery, so it should give more than double the battery life. It comes with a larger back cover to accommodate the large battery. Only downside is that it probably won't fit in most Note 3 cases/covers.

$ 18.56 with free shipping. Has anyone tried these large 8000 mAh batteries yet ?
