How you finding it? I'm upgrading next month and I liked what I saw, just the memory is a bit of an issue. How much user available memory is there?

There's about 23gb available from what I can tell. I'm loving it hey. Best Samsung I've ever had. Kept swopping and changing between ios and android but I think this is the phone that will end that.

Had a strange issue last night. An SMS wouldn't send. Tried making a call and it said not registered on network. Tried calling myself from another phone and it went straight to voicemail. All this time I had two connection bars. Restarted the phone and everything was fine again. Anyone who experienced this? Wondering if this was a hardware or a software problem and if I should try to return the phone since it is still in the 7 day period.

Most likely a network problem - I used to have this issue on my S4, S5 and now seldomly on my S6

My wife is also with Vodacom though - but on an iPhone 6. Her phone didn't have these issues last night and they were next to each other.

Biggest worry is that I had to restart, so it didn't go back into network mode on its own. Did you have to restart when you had these issues?

And it did it again just after I typed the post. Once again had to restart.

next time, try just putting it on airplane mode, and back again

LTE signal hunting lock
Happened to my Galaxy S4 Mini all the time until I blocked LTE (never in a coverage area which is why it happens).

Thank you - that's very useful advice.

Toggled it to 3G/2G only. Let's see what happens

Telkom have the N5 on their website. When you enquire they don't have any and say it's coming mid November .......Why bother advertising it then

Anyone with a Note 5 experiencing aggressive Ram management on their Note 5 ? I was considering getting one with my upgrade to use as my work line , but after doing some research Iv noticed that there are alot of complaints with the Note 5 killing apps after having 5 or 6 apps open together which defeats the multi tasking capabilities .

I was in both a Samsung store and a Vodacom store today and tested it myself and it is really bad , both units I tested started killing apps and restarting apps after opening 5 or 6 apps . I checked the Ram use on both devices and Touchwiz seems to really use up a large chunk of Ram . I compared it to the Note 4 which was also on display in both stores and the Note 4 had 1gb less Ram (3gb) and yet even after all apps are closed the Note 4 had more Ram available free than the Note 5 had and this was at both stores .

Anyone here noticed the aggressive Ram issue on the Note 5 ? How bad is it with every day useage ?

I am a heavy user with regards to messaging , e mail and browsing and often have 7 or 8 tabs open in my browser alone and anywhere from 8 to 10 apps open constantly and the last thing I want is for apps to reload etc loosing my place and also increasing data use etc .

hi,
Firstly,
from what you describe your daily "usage" habits are ( your last paragraph , i don't think Note5 will never suite you.? (for starters, any device battery will take a good "knock" with your usage habits !) and then "aggressive ram management." issues ?
That said..... i have a Note 2,Note 3,Note 4 and Note 5 (since launch date) I rate the Note 3 and Note 4 highly... but i rate the Note5 just as high. I am a meduim user and have no issues with daily "aggressive ram management " /issues.
Battery usage overall is on par, in relation to my other Note devices (which is very good ) I overall was very negative towards the Note5 (no sd card, no removeable battery etc, but hey, you know thats the way most devices are heading and you find new alternatives /options. Eg. ext sd issue, i have an usb otg that work fine (viewing movies and storing backups etc) I see with no removeable battery, Samsung and others are selling battery banks that slips/fits over device, wireless charging you battery while you use it, you can also switch wireless charging on an off ? ... and you can use it as a phone case also. (it does seems like its a bit bulky, yes)
Bottom line,
all my other Note 2 /3/4 are rooted .
However, i am so far really enjoying my device features eg changeable themes , the " extra" smoothness/responsiveness
that i am not at moment interested in rooting.!
good luck, with whatever you decide on.

I had both the Note 3 and Note 4 and both devices were able to keep up with heavy use both on the Ram side and battery side with no issues . I am a fan of the Samsung Note series in general ,but after seeing the reviews with the aggressive RAM use and then seeing it for myself in two stores today it just makes me wonder why Samsung would go backwards with regards to this . The Note 4 was right next to the Note 5 and the Note 4 had more RAM free than what the Note 5 had and I opened exactly the same amount of apps on each . For me it's just madness to have such an expensive device having to reload the apps or web pages after having 5 or 6 apps open together .

I certainly never had this on my Note 3 or 4 or even my LG G3 or Nexus 6 . The camera and S pen functions as usual are great , but I just don't know if I'll be able to get past apps having to re load the whole time because of this aggressive RAM management . It kind of negates having that extra 1gb RAM over the Note 4 and 3 .

Not sure about the aggressive RAM issue... my Note5 flies and everything loads up quickly, including going back and forth between apps with tons of stuff open. This phone is a dream!

Galaxy Note5 software update rolling out with battery life, call quality improvements

Despite housing a battery that is smaller than the unit in its predecessor, the frugal screen and chipset of Samsung's Galaxy Note5, as well as the optimized power draw in standby mode result in excellent battery life. Our own battery benchmark returned over 9 hours of screen-on time when testing, which puts it towards the top of the pile, and everyday observations confirm that you can eke out day and a half or even two days of battery with it with normal usage.

Those of you who got Samsung's latest and greatest phablet will be delighted to know that an over-the-air update is rolling out that aims to improve battery life even further through some software optimizations. Besides the battery life improvements, Samsung also mentions call quality and security enhancements that will come with the 144MB update, though it's not specified what these entail.
