From a Note 4 to a Mate 7 sounds like a downgrade. Rather wait for the Mate 8 and LG G Pro.
Yes. I am trying to find faults with the Note 4 and failing.

Really just want the dual SIM functionality and fingerprint scanner.

When is the mate 8 due to land here?

Not quite sure when the Mate 8 arrives, we may see it being launched at IFA, so I'd say ETA should be around October.

In the mean time, WRT Note 4 Finger Print Scanner, did you set it up to read both your thumbs from all angles? Thats what I did with mine and it works very well.

Sweet. Some sound advice there. Let me give that a shot. And be a bit more patient waiting for my next phone :)

I see what you mean about the Mate 8.

It's basically an upgraded Mate 7 in all aspects.

Better resolution, 4GB of RAM instead of 3GB, Emotion UI4.0 instead of 3.0, better camera etc etc

Nothing confirmed ito battery size yet, but I imagine it will be at least 4100 (which is what is in the 7)

I really wonder which dual SIM phones the service providers will even stock here.

Vodacom have not a single one.

And cell c only have the mate 7 (though I can't see that deal on the website anymore)...

They do still have the Mate 7 in stores (not sure about their online portal) , a colleague of mine just picked one up this week from Cell C .

As for the Mate 7 being a downgrade on the Note 4 , well I suppose if you want to get technical then yes it has a lower res screen and the camera is better on the Note 4 , but Iv had a Note 4 and honestly I don't miss the higher res screen and the user experience is great on the Mate 7 . The Mate 7 also has a fantastic battery life ,one of the best (if not the best) finger print scanners on a device in SA and the build is every bit a premium build as the Note 4 . The other plus point is that Gold Mate 7 is duel sim and it is a fair bit cheaper than a Note 4 as well .

What am I missing? Why does "everyone" want a fingerprint scanner?

I suppose it is not a must , but Iv become so used to the one on the Mate 7 that iv just taken it for granted .

The one on the Mate 7 is really good because it works like a charm and is placed in a very sensible place . On the Mate 7 it allows you to lock apps (like notes etc etc) , it also allows one to unlock the phone by just touching the sensor , no having to first wake the phone or having to press a button etc , just a simple touch and you are at your home screen . It's a small thing ,but something one comes accustomed to especially if you use your phone a lot . There are a couple of other functions , it can operate as a camera shutter and in the future hopefully we will start seeing banking apps etc allowing us to log on etc with a fingerprint scan .

Before the Mate 7 I had the Note 4 and S5 , honestly I never used the scanner on these as I found them to be a bit of a hit or miss . It was just quicker to unlock the phone normally . The Mate 7 ' s scanner just works so well that it becomes second nature to use it when unlocking the device .

And then you ask someone else to do something with your phone for you quick cuz you're busy juggling something else, like a car wheel, and the darn thing won't work for them.

I held a Note 5 today and I must say it felt very nice in hand. Selling for about R9,500 in Dubai.

I seriously can't believe that no contact pricing has been made available yet. The Edge plus is available from next week Friday the 4th sep. Hope it's not a Samsung fail....

I heard the Note will only be here in November. Well that's what they said on the Samsung Mobile Facebook page.

It is about inline with regular Edge and Flat pricing though. That exchange rate has rocketed already expensive phone prices through the roof and it doesn't come more expensive than those phones. Just a little while ago the regular Edge was retailing for 15K so I don't see why you're surprised.

Also Cellucity suck and although they can't affect contract pricing they are generally more expensive for accessories and other cellphone paraphernalia than other stores.

It's less than what I expected it would cost...

Same here. Prices are getting out of hand though.

I've been a loyal Samsung customer for years (S3-Note 3-Note 4) but there's almost no chance my next phone will be a Sammie.

Agree on the excessive pricing... That's why I stick to secondhand phones - and that helps with my habit of changing phones every month

I'm going dual SIM for sure. Probably Huawei.
