So apparently the Note 6 will be the Note 7

Waiting for your chance to grab a Galaxy Note 6? Well, you may be in line waiting for a phone that’ll arrive under a different name.

According to a credible source out of Korea, Samsung has decided to rename its next-generation Galaxy Note device as the Galaxy Note 7, not the Galaxy Note 6. The company’s rationale behind the decision pertains to the association consumers have with the number “7″ and Samsung’s launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge: “When Galaxy Note 6 that has its model number lower than Galaxy S7, which is the newest model, is released, it can give out a feeling that it is an outdated phone,” a high-ranking official said.

Rumor: Galaxy Note 7 edge to feature dual lens camera

The next Galaxy’s moniker has been settled, with the most recent information pointing to “Galaxy Note 7 edge” as Samsung’s next big thing for the smartphone market. We’ve seen Samsung’s trademark filings for Galaxy Iris and Galaxy Eyeprint in the European Union, Korea, and the US, we’re well on our way to seeing an iris scanner on the upcoming handset. Now, a new report from Taiwan claims that the Galaxy Note 7 edge (a.k.a. the Galaxy Note 6 edge) will feature a dual lens camera setup.

Huawei’s P9 already offers the feature as does the LG G5, and, with Apple rumored to feature a dual lens camera in the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it seems as though the Korean giant is following through with industry-leading trends for 2016. This rumored dual-lens camera could presumably perform, at the very least, the same function as it does on the LG G5: one lens would work for micro shots, the other for macro, panorama shots at a distance.

The Galaxy Note 7 is said to feature a 5.8-inch, Slim RGB display with a Quad HD (2,560 x 1,440p) resolution and a 4,000mAh battery according to rumors, though this should be taken with a grain of salt until more information is in place. Another rumor says that Samsung could offer a cheaper version of its flagship, though there are no details on a Galaxy Note 7 Lite spec sheet for now.

Galaxy Note 6 to break cover in early-August

According to Evan Blass a.k.a @evleaks, the Galaxy Note 6 (also known as the Note 7) will be announced “exactly two months” from now. As we’re already into the second day of June, we’re bound to believe that Samsung will unveil the new phablet some time by the first week of August, or the 2nd of August to be precise.

Blass has been pretty accurate with leaks before, so there’s no reason to doubt this particular revelation. But we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now until more evidence emerges. As for the features to expect from Samsung’s latest Note flagship, it has been rumored that it will come with a dual-lens camera, which sounds like a bit of a stretch at the moment, but cannot be written off.

We broke the exclusive story about the Galaxy Note 6 featuring a BlackBerry Hub like feature known as Samsung Hub, so a lot will be different with this year’s Note flagship. In terms of display, the Galaxy Note 6/7 should be sporting a 5.7-inch 4K or Quad HD Super AMOLED display. There’s talk of a Galaxy Note 7 edge as well, though no concrete evidence has come up to support the rumors.

The Galaxy Note 7 edge will feature a 5.8-inch, curved Slim RGB AMOLED display with a Quad HD (1440p) screen resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 SoC, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a 4,000mAh battery, USB Type-C charging, and IP68 water and dust resistance. Alongside of these familiar rumors, other rumors pertain to the possibility of a dual-lens camera setup similar to the LG G5 and Huawei P9 as well as the implementation of an iris scanner, a feature that Samsung has been developing for some time. We’re also expecting Samsung to bring its Always On Display, 5MP front camera, 12MP back camera (both cameras having f/1.7 apertures), as well as similar accessories as the Galaxy S7 to the Galaxy Note 7 edge as well.

Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Note 7 or Note 7 edge on August 2, 2016

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-7-Edge-August-2-Announcement-SamMobile-720x405.jpg

We’ve seen quite a few rumors about the upcoming device in the Galaxy Note lineup including the one which suggested that it would be the Galaxy Note 7. Now, we’ve received information suggesting that the Galaxy Note 7 with a curved edge screen would be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event.

According to an image that we’ve received, Samsung might unveil either the Galaxy Note7 or Galaxy Note7 edge on August 2, 2016, at the Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York. As you can see in the image, five curved lines might be pointing towards ’7′ the Galaxy Note7′s name and “The next edge is just around the corner” phrase suggests that it could be the Galaxy Note7 edge. This would bring its numbering in sync with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Everything looking good so far. USB C was a bit of a surprise. Huge battery compared to Note 5
