) My opinion is purely based on the apps. If all the apps that you think you will use can be downloaded on Android then go for that.

He didn't mention apps, he mentioned "watching movies, reading, emails and general browsing.... ease of use" which will all benefit from the larger res screen.

I have an ipad3, and really desperate in swopping it for an android tab
Why?
I honestly cannot figure out why the Galaxy would be better.
Apps are better on iPad
You dont have to root and install some ROM on an ipad
iPad 3 screens is top notch
iPad gets updates
Official ICS for Galaxy?? I personally dont like supporting a product that cant even release an update that is know to improve such product.
ICS on Galaxy Tab is actually great but you must hook and crook to get it done?
Galaxy 2 looks good on the other hand.

erm, you don't have to root an android device to get great functionality out of it. I have a rooted note, and honestly I hardly use anything that needs the phone to be rooted.
It's a simple matter of waiting for something to become available on a device. Should be hitting the Tabs next month anyway.

With all that being said and done, nothing will beat the Ipad for ease of use. That thing is simple as all hell. Personally I would wait to see how the MS Surface does. Then take a pick between the two models. I find it a lot easier to have a device that uses the native application. As in having a word doc open up in word. and not a third party program.

IpAD is not so hot in that department, for the OP I would rate the worse thing about an iPad is you cannot add more space via sd card.
I'm just not a fan of Android anymore and this coming from an Apple Hater.
Updates not being released by official sources just gets to me I guess.
MY advice for a person looking for a tablet is to get second hand for now like I did , I paid R2900 iPad 2 in Feb and use the device everyday.
That's not bad for something that was in mint condition?

To get rid of apps i don't want.
Imagine how nice it would be to remove that Newsstand app on your ipad, the Reminders app, Game Center or any of those other apps you NEVER use (speaking personally as i don't care for either of those) . Thats why i root my Android phone. Otherwise the only reason to root is the same reason you jailbreak. To do things you are not allowed to normally do.

ok thanks a mill - so the viewing quality would be better on IPad.
what about use of uploading - i have all my data (movies and mp3's) on a External HDD at the moment?

No way to copy files for free to your iPad without itunes, no way to play the unconverted videos without buying a 3rd party video player.
