yeah, thats an important question. Prices vary with th 16, 32, and 64gig models. And there is no usb.............bloody apple.
I stream all my movies on my phone from my pc. samsung ftw
I stream everything from my PC's hard drive to my iPad seamlessly over wifi, you just have to spend like $4 for the plex app... well worth the money though. The screen has like a million pixels more than an HD TV so the only thing limiting the quality is the file being played.

No, i was going to suggest waiting for the Galaxy Note 10.1. I would not spend money on the current gen Galaxy Tab or even the Galaxy Tab 2 which is the same bloody device.
The screen resolution is unnoticeable unless you have a side by side comparison.
You cannot play 1080p MKV's on an ipad. Even with every single 3rd party app available. It lags like a cow.

It can be done for free, painlessly and easily with an Android device. (I say android device as i do it on my phone, but my ipad cannot do it, had to jailbreak and use iFile)
Oh so you thought he was asking if he should get an iPad or some rumoured Galaxy Tab which hasn't even been released yet.
Thats just something people with galaxy tabs tell themselves.

My verdict is... If you are going to Jailbreak then get an iPad. If you are not going to jailbreak get a Galaxy Tab and save the extra BAZILLION rand on the device and apps, treat yourself to a holiday

The iPad is a brilliant device and 3 has great res. The only real downfall to them is iOS.
If I could flash Android on an iPad I would not hesitate. I sold my iPad 2 cause iOS is such a piece of ****e to use after used to Android.

You have to root to jailbreak your iPad or iPhone
Ipad 3 screen is top notch (I fully agree on that)
ICS on my Galaxy Tab 10.1v and on my Samsung Galaxy S no problems and receive official updates ?
Much rather use my Galaxy tab over my Ipad 1

I have iPad2 and Kindle Fire rooted to ICS. I have to vote iPad here.
1) Yes the apps are better. It might be just my opinion but I can give many many many specific examples. I am struggling to find many really great apps for the Kindle. The iPad is packed with them.
2) Streaming onto iPad is cake with Airplay or Plex.
3) There's no advantage on 'customisability' for Android over iPad. Rooting and Jailbreaking are essentially the same thing from a user perspective, and jailbreaking is a 2 minute 1 click operation.
4) 2048 resolution - although I have iPad2. "The screen resolution is unnoticeable unless you have a side by side comparison" is just poppycock. It's hugely noticeable, increasingly so the more time you spend with it.
5) "You cannot play 1080p MKV's on an ipad. Even with every single 3rd party app available. It lags like a cow." Also poppycock unless you mean streaming which is a PC limitation. AVPLayerHD does 1080 mkv's no problem though. Actually I should test this tonight just to be sure.

I tested a 1080p 4.5GB BBC Frozen Planet file and it plays?
Not sure how it'll handle a 45GB file.
You can also buy (download) series and movies in full HD on itunes nowadays, I'm assuming they all play fine on latest Apple devices.

1) Apps are better on the iPad, they just cost a lot.
2) I do not want to have to install 3rd party apps onto my media server.
3) One does not have to root to "Customise" an android device. On my iPad the best thing i can get to customising is changing how icons look and the background. Please can someone teach me how to completely change the menu, lock screen, layout and notifications on an ipad.
4) Rubbish, just rubbish. The 2048 screen looks nice. Real world use, its a waste of battery life.
5) I will try AVPlayer HD tonight. Gplayer and VLC could not play a 1080p copy of Thor off the device.

OK, I have the Tab 10.1, Wife just got the New iPad :
Galaxy Tab is much easier to use imo... iTunes = Fail imo... Essentially they will do just about the same thing, just the Galaxy Tab does not require you to go through iTunes for just about everything. I did however find a nice app (not free) for the iPad that lets my wife stream movies / music from my ReadyNas. Sound quality in the iPad is very good too. But me, I'm an android fanboi, so I am more biased to the Galaxy.

Ok. Well the whole jailbreaking thing is a way around that but yea fair enough.
I use Plex as a standalone media server for streaming TO iPad, and VLC with VLC Remote for watching on the PC.
True, you only have to root to get the latest (and first truly decent version) version of Android. Or to get a clean (non-Touchwiz'd) build of Android at all.
I guess you're not a big ebook reader? I am and any significant increase in pixel density makes a huge difference to me. I reckon I'd be happy enough with a 1080 10" screen though. 1024 or 1280 is just washed out to me, but I get by.

WOAH!! AVPlayer has a built in FTP client AND can connect to FTP servers? Its better than iFile in that regard.
Will try some MKV's tonight, hopefully you have solved one of my biggest problems with this useless device!

I am trying to get into the ebook thing. But, i download magazines as PDF's and i find that comic zeal has an irritating lag while browsing through the pages quickly. What do you use to view them?
