At first it probably will but once you adjust you'll be fine. Normal typing on touchscreens is a bit difficult since you can't feel the buttons but that isn't such a problem due to the 4 inch screen here. Hold the phone in landscape mode and it should make for comfortable typing.
There's also the Swype keyboard. I'm not a big fan of it but some people love it.
 
Can someone who got their phone from vodacom comment on the branding? Does it say 'vodacom/vodafone' on the device itself? Software wise/media any issues?
Also a question for anyone who knows - would you have to wait for a vodafone specific firmware for the next update or will it be possible to apply a generic update?

The beauty of Android is that there's plenty of hackers to deal with that crap ;)

You should be able to flash a generic UK or Asain firmware to get rid of any Vodacom junk.

I can't comment on what Vodacom does to the phone since I imported mine from the UK. I was just impatient :D

Well I can comment... ;)

On startup and shutdown of the device there is a short Vodafone "360" video that plays... That's pretty much it. No branded apps, software or website links. The device itself is also stock standard, no further branding.

I have some good news for you if your pc is running Win7 there is a proggie called Connectify turns your wireless connection into a virtual access point. Happy surfing!

Thanks for that... Downloaded and installed it. WiFi sharing seems to work a treat, but ICS is a bit problematic though. Will need to fiddle with it a bit more I guess.

Found what seems to be the solution, when enabling your ICS set it so share with the microsoft virtual Wifi miniport adapter, connect to the internet and then start your hotspot on connectify.
 
Have noticed you cant use public wifi or home wifi networks to go onto the market, it connects but very few apps download, have seen a few posts of people saying to open up ports on your router, but does not help. Also apps cant use wifi, all mine time out then have to re-enable 3g for them to update or connect.

I use my home wifi constantly with Android market.. just had to open up the right port. Never had an issue.
 
Is there a way to get KIES to sync using bluetooth and not USB? I need to sync my contacts and calendar a few times a day and the usb method is not great. Or is there maybe another app that does it?

Will try 5228 but when i tried this weekend it kept timing out
 
Am I just blind or do locally supplied phones (vodacom/vodafone) not have swype installed?
 
Fun thing to do at Waterfront/Sandton City if you're bored: Walk into an Apple shop, pretend to fiddle with the iPhones on display. Then place Galaxy next to iPhone and turn on both screens. The shop will go silent.

There's simply no comparison. The Galaxy's screen makes the iPhone look like a 1950s television set. A black-and-white one.

They'll then say, well, it's probably not as good as the iPhone 4. Ask to see the iPhone 4, please. The one with the funny antenna.

Everone will mutter something about 'on the way' or remain silent.

Look smug as you leave the shop, and feel happy about your Galaxy S.
