Samsung Galaxy S23

Well there you go

Just updated to UI9

which has a lot of things missing (that is basically in a nutshell the essence of the debate on whether the S23 ultra deserves more updating) - and a lot of features are not provided - most phones coming to the end of their update cycle will stop getting AI features that they cannot handle because the AI doesn't only depend on CPU speed - nowadays aphone has an SOC (system on a chip) to run it and handle all the core processing functions ..... this comprises of the CPU (self explanatory: which is basically the normal chip that handles all the regular functionality of the phone like running apps, making calls etc) ...... then obviously you have the GPU which handles the graphics and nowadays you have what is known as an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) which handles all the AI related tasks

As the AI related tasks have become increasingly important this NPU has grown in speed, power and capacity hence a chip made in 2023 which did not rely so much on AI tasks has a less sophisticated and lower capacity NPU thus it will not handle all the tasks that say a newer model like an S26 Ultra will need to in order to do all the things that Samsung think should become important for modern living hence each update will have less features in order of (a) importance and (b) what the phone is expected to do

they will not provide a feature on a phone simply to say that the phone has the feature if the phone is physically going to struggle to perform these featuress and older phones increasingly get fewer and fewer features added even while it gets the update ie most UI and GUI features are included in the update to make the look and feel similar it will not include many things that rely on AI and modern phone architecture functions that are simply missing in those older phones

this does not mean that the S23 ultra is an inferior phone because whatever it is capable of doing it will do it just as well as the S26 Ultra even (mostly) and this mainly in terms of the basic phone functionality that we rely on .... but the S26 Ultra just has a few features that the S23 Ultra will not manage to do - how important any of these features actually are is debatable because a lot of the AI stuff is regarded as disposable garbage and while the manufacturers and phone designers are figuring out what is useful and what really is not, a lot of it is actually superfluous and should eventually disappear hopefully only leaving the really required helpful stuff

Who the hell cares about AI features on a phone.
