Samsung Galaxy S5

Negatives

-They should have done more in the build quality compartment. I would have liked a metal/aluminium frame and back.

-I'm also disappointed that they increased the screen size. 5" is big enough - why make it bigger?

-The bigger bezels (than the S4) looks kinda meh... the S4 and expecially LG G2 looks much better in this regard.

Positives

-The soft touch rubber back is an upgrade coming from the S3 and s4's glossy plastic back.

-I'm glad they did not increase the screen resolution, it would only require more battery power without much added benefits.

-Great to see wireless charging, LTE, waterproofing and dustproofing.

Overall, I'm a little disappointed. It seems like other manufacturers frequently offer better alternatives these days. For now, I'm still very happy with the S4 though.

I agree. I just wonder who will get the better priced packages? S5 or Z2?

Hopefully the Z2 will not be much more expensive than the S5.....we can only hope.

But I will pay extra for the Sony. :)

He's already mentioned... Bigger battery and cameras for starters.

Apologies for not reading all 298 posts in this thread...

I eagerly await GSMArena's battery test to see the relative battery strengths. I checked out GSMArena as much for my benefit as anyone else's as I am in the market for an upgrade. I see the following (bold better?):

S5 Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Quad-core 2.5 GHz vs Z2 Snapdragon 801 Quad-core 2.3 GHz

S5 2GB RAM vs Z2 3GB RAM

S5 removable 2800 mAh battery vs Z2 non-removable 3200 mAh battery

S5 Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, temperature, humidity, gesture, heart rate vs Z2 Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer

S5 video 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps vs Z2 video 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps, 720p@120fps

S5 16MP camera vs Z2 20.7 MP

S5 microUSB v3.0 vs Z2 microUSB v2.0

S5 5.1" screen vs Z2 5.2"

S5 IP67 certified Complete dust protection and water resistant to 1m for 30 mins vs Z2 IP58 certified Dust resistant and water resistant for more than 1m

S5 145 g vs Z2 163 g

S5 Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen vs Z2 IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen

S5 has infrared port

Z2 has an FM radio

A phone manufacturer more interested in your health :wtf:

Are you in the market for a new phone? What will you be considering then? I am due for an upgrade and was looking at the Note 3 but was waiting for the S5 launch. Now I must decide whether to take the plunge or wait a little longer. Nothing is really saying "buy me, I'm a must have". I've even been pondering a Lumia for a change of scenery but the MS road map seems a little disjointed at the moment....

Maybe I'll hang onto my S3 and just go month to month.

Rumours circulating again that there will be more than one version of the S5.... some saying this is the "lite" version. My quoted specs from GSM Arena could allude to this too. They state Snapdragon 805 chipset, all other sites are referring to Snapdragon 800. Other things raised in the rumours are only 2GB RAM, a 16MP camera when others are releasing 20MP ones and the 1080p screen instead of the rumoured higher resolution one.

Samsung does have a history of launching multiple devices.... how many S4 variants are there? Perhaps the tech wasn't ready for this launch and the top spec model will release later....

Wtf was the Samsung thinking? Oh wait, they weren't.

They looked at kickstarter projects/ideas, glanced at their team leader's iPhone 5S, watched a Xperia Z1 Youtube commercial and figured that everything must fit into a Galaxy S3, ag S4.

The size of the S5 is getting close to the Galaxy Note. They might in future get rid of the Note.

The Note is also growing though, from 5.3 to 5.5 to 5.7... next Note should be 5.9"...

If only the Xperia Z2 didn't have those horrible virtual navigation buttons I'd be able to pick it over the S5.

The S5 is still a great phone though, even if it is a bit disappointing.

Meh...I'm waiting for the Note 4, my upgrade is in July, but I'm sure waiting until August or October won't be an issue unless something better arrives.

Happy with my Galaxy S4, tbh. :)

Something really not quite right with this device launch. Much hype, even Samsung spoke about innovation. This is their flagship. Yet specs don't show it. Focus on RAM alone, the Note3 has 3GB RAM, this only 2...

I think, possibly hope, Samsung is up to something. They never did mention specs on the presentation did they?

Don't say that..haha! This announce made the choice of the Note 3 easier... :/

I didn't watch it but I read your comments... Seems at half the price the N5 is a fantastic deal :D

Not any real specs no.

I think they are going to launch an S5 Premium or something.
