Samsung Galaxy S5

Here's a hands-on video with the S5. Phil from Android Central seems to like it a lot.

Honestly very disgusted with the Galaxy S5, let me put this in perspective...
Thought my S3 was the best thing since sliced bread and then after a horrible yet very fatal falling accident... it came to its demise, Got the S4 for a replacement and wasn't that wow'ed by it and now the the S5 has little to no improvement, sorry but WTF?

Maybe I'm just too much of a geek, expected more...

what more did you expect? i also felt very disappointed, but let's be honest, what else, besides a device that sucks your ..., could they have included?

Nearly every feature has been improved - yes it's minor improvements, but all other manufactures have done the same up until now. Show me any other phone that is significantly better. What more did you want? :wtf:

If you want something better, then you'll have to wait for the next gen phones.

This is my sentiment too. A lot of people on here are so disgusted with the features, yet it is the best available on the market in it's class in most instances - granted that newer phones still to be announced might be better. It would be nice to hear from all the critics what they would have included for innovation. And are we going to hear the same song and dance with every other phone manufacturer who has only minor improvements?

In my post #325, I also wondered about the innovation and the cost vs value for money, but seriously, people carry on here as if Samsung went back to the original Galaxy S.

One can accept these options Park, but is this innovation? And if they had done exactly this, would you have said it is a great phone and the next "must have" for you? Apart from the battery improvements, how would these improvements have put you in a considerably better position than you are in now? It is a cellphone after all with fantastic display and sufficient RAM imo. Do you run out of RAM? What do you currently have?

Forgive me if I sound argumentative (trying not to be) - I would just like to understand what requirements and innovations my fellow forum members would have liked to see

Higher capacity battery? They battery would have to be larger then which = a bigger or fatter phone. You'd then complain about the size.

a 1440p display would be nice but you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between 441ppi and 550ppi on a 5" display at normal viewing distances, never mind the increased battery consumption.

More RAM is not needed with KitKat, so why add more if it will just not be used or might increase cost?

I think QHD displays on a phone is really useless at this stage, the human eye cannot even tell the difference anymore between FHD and QHD. I just picked up my Note 3 now to try and distinguish the dots on it, and there is no freakin way I even come close.

Might agree with the battery though, everyone wants a battery that will last forever :)

1. I don't think you know what the word "phobia" means.
2. Plenty of girls understand technology very well, thank you. Ones that go on videos all dollied up and having men drool over them and pretend to be "ZOMG GRL GAMERZ", normally do not. Not saying that this one is like that, just that I've seen it so many times I can't be arsed to watch it all the way through. You should really work on that judgement thing.
3. I watched it on my Note 3. You can clearly see the colours shifting when she tilts it relative to the camera. That's the very thing IPS displays are supposed not to do.

The Z2 isn't much "bigger or fatter" yet it has a 3200 mAh battery.

Anywho, I caught a bit where the guy talked about a ultra power saving mode. The screen turns black & white and disables most functions. He said at something like 10/15% battery left it would be able to operate in standby for something like 20 hours IIRC. Sounds like it effectively turns your smartphone into a dumb phone. Would be interesting to see if you can enable certain smartphone functions in this mode and how well it works.

they said lasts up to 24hours in standby mode (meaning, don't touch it, which is useless). also just switches of data completely so only sms and call is still available.
 
The average consumers keeps the same phone for roughly 2 years.
Providing 3 GB of ram would allow the phone to be "future proof" .
Yes Kit Kat doesnt neet 3 GB of ram but look at the S3 now. It cannot be upgraded to the official Kit Kat due to its measley 1 GB ram.
 
I was hoping for a few very obvious and achievable improvements from the S4:
1) Industrial hardware design. Some indication that they have hired designers with taste. Premium feeling and looking materials. On this count they fell on their noses.
2) Some level of colour calibration. iPhone has it, Nexus7 has it, now the Z2 has it and it looks like they've put a huge amount of work into getting an exceptional gamut, but the S5 is presumably still going to be plagued by off-white, badly skewed 'vivid' colours.
3) A rethinking of Touchwiz. It looks like they actually began to do this in the Settings; and the promo material was strongly indicative of it; but then they did a bait-and-switch, and it turned out to be the same old bog-ugly UI design. The homescreen is identical.
