Samsung Galaxy S5

Unfortunately those still use the crappy TRILUMINOS display that's on the Z and Z1. I know everything looks washed-out compared to the Note 3, but that display was just plain bad on such an otherwise great phone.

The Z2 uses an IPS True Colour LED display & reviewers call the Z2 display hugely impressive.

It's nothing like the poor display on the Z1.

The Z, I agree with, as it never had the TRILUMINOS display. The Z1, though, was rather good. Would never match the saturation levels of an AMOLED display, though.

Here is a hands-on video of the Sony Xperia Z2 display....have you seen anything like it yet? ;)

The display on the Z and Z1 is terrible indeed. Apparently the Z2 is slightly better but still has poor viewing angles.

Near all hands-on reviews that I have seen/read, the reviewer have acknowledged this not being a negative any longer and being amazed at the screen viewing qualities.

"Use Your Own"?
huh? whatcha mean? this went over my head.
I told you already, why are you not listening?

Sony Xperia Z2 and Z2 tablet. Sorted. :p
Z2 - agree - did someone answer my availability question yet?
Z2 tablet - nope - I have a tablet, and old one, didn't use it really. If I get another tablet, I want it to be a Note or something with a stylus that I can actually use at work (still trying to get my company to get me a note instead of getting me a phone contract - like you see I already have too many of those)

Z2 available beginning april according to sony and vodacom.

Apologies as we are heading slightly off topic but...

I see MTN is offering the Note 3 for R449 on the MTN myChoice100. You get 100 anytime minutes, 100MB data and 100 SMS (useless as who still uses SMS?).

This compares to the Vodacom Smart S with 75 minutes, 200MB data and 200 SMS.

Less minutes with VC. The extra 100MB of data with MTN will cost you R30. Personally don't think the Vodacom offer would be enough for me to port.

I am currently on Virgin and haven't had problems with them so was considering taking the note with them. R479 for R200 airtime, 25 smses and 200mb data.

However that vodacom deal looks good!

A video doesn't help with determining display quality as I'm sure you know. I'd have to see one in real life to be sure.

Most people complained about the viewing angles on the Z, but I don't really care about that, as I always look at my phone straight on and don't care if others can see my phone. I just thought its colours were really poor and washed out, like the TN panels in cheap PC monitors. And changing the settings doesn't help much.

Edit: I tried watching the video but I can't stand fake "nerd" girls so I didn't get very far, but the colours still shift horribly when tilting the phone in the video. Compare that to the Note 3 or even other IPS phones.

You need to watch the video in HD on a quality display. That would exclude a Z or Z1.

Erica used to be a XDA presenter, she is definitely not a "fake nerd girl".

You might even learn a few things, if you can get over your phobia that girls cannot understand technology. ;)

That "nerd" girl has a degree in cognitive science specialising in human computer interaction. She is actually pretty good at what she does, you need get over yourself.

+1

She is one of very few who know exactly what they are talking about and one who is prepared to go incredibly in-depth. I'm not a huge fan of her, I prefer Aaron Baker from Phonedog, but Erica can be very informative.

I really like the look of the z2. I'm really tempted to get it, but will probably end up with the s5 with a gear 2 and save my other contract upgrade for the note4
