Not all tastes are the same (this is a good thing). It is impossible to have a beautiful and operational recipe for everybody. The beauty of Android (on any device), is that you CAN make it the way you want it to look. So if you don't like TW, then change it. If you like it, keep it.

EDIT:
TW is hardly a reason to hate Samsung phones.

I don't hate Samsung phones because of Touchwiz. I'm disappointed that they didn't do anything to update Touchwiz and make it more attractive. It would have been an obvious win for the S5, and would have shown that they're aggressively trying to innovate and improve their phones in the same ways that Sony obviously are.

And whether or not everyone has the same taste is immaterial; for the vast majority of Samsung owners they're using the stock UI, and they would have appreciated some design work. Why must we do the legwork for them?
(HTC's Sense5 UI is attractive but not all that functional - but at least they do work on it constantly).

Most reviews seem positive with the TouchWiz update on the S5.

what aspect of TouchWiz do you want changed?

If you are talking about the icons - that's not up to Samsung, but up to the developer of the app. Yes with some apps you can customize icons, but that is what they do, that is not what samsung does.

If you are talking about the widgets - that's not up to Samsung, but up to the developer of the app whose widget it is you want to use.

If I asked for changes to TouchWiz, it would involve row/column customizability (as on my note 3 everything is just too big) other than that, umm, I think I'm okay hey.

Hate was perhaps a strong word - dissapointed? Me too. There are things I would also have loved to see in the phone - for that matter in other manufacturer's phones too. And taste is not immaterial. If it was we would all agree that the design is crap or alternatively it is awesome - all phones would look and function the same. It is impossible to please everyone. Like I said earlier, the beauty of Android is in its flexibility to alter the look and feel of the UI. As a matter of interest, what would you change on TW that would satisfy you in such a way that it would be a non issue?

Have you had it in your hands yet? A few reviews I've read say it feels far better than the S4.

2) Some level of colour calibration. iPhone has it, Nexus7 has it, now the Z2 has it and it looks like they've put a huge amount of work into getting an exceptional gamut, but the S5 is presumably still going to be plagued by off-white, badly skewed 'vivid' colours.
3) A rethinking of Touchwiz. It looks like they actually began to do this in the Settings; and the promo material was strongly indicative of it; but then they did a bait-and-switch, and it turned out to be the same old bog-ugly UI design. The homescreen is identical.

Both of these are software related. A small update could surely bring them?

Well the Android kernel has been 64bit compatible for quite a while now. It's just up to the handset manufacturers to include a 64bit processor or not.

Sorry, but I am not THAT technically inclined - why would 64bit be so important to a cellphone?

CraZee said that new phones this year are going 64bit. Not one new release Android based phone has gone the 64bit route. They are all 32bit.

So that must make all new Android devices a massive failure then. Not just the S5. Not that there is a single 64bit app on the market yet.

It's not that important, it might even bring slower performance without some clever addressing tricks (like what Apple does with iOS7).

The Snapdragon 615 chip is ready with more cores than the current Apple 64-bit chip, ready to go in Q4 2014.

Samsung also presented us with the new Exynos chips which turned out to be 32-bit and by no means 64-bit as they previously said to develop.

Then we have Intel and NVIDIA Tegra soon to present us with 64-bit chips as per standard, should this be decided to be included with the hardware as Qualcomm is taking the shares and agreements.

I actually can't wait to see 64-bit in action, it may lure IBM with their ARM licenses and even AMD. Why do I appreciate this, options.

It is ridiculous how companies do this. We are driven by the American market and US tech sites. The finger print scanner is another prime example of this. Apple does it so everyone thinks it's a must have.
