Its all very well if KitKat runs on 512 Mb but touchwiz wont. So yes you can put KitKat on S3 but its not Samsung.

Of course these aspects are related, but when new technology comes out, I expect Samsung's flagship to incorporate them.
For example, If you knew all the knew cars coming out were to incorporate fully automated driving modules and your favourite manufacturer's flagship car of the year brought out a car with only power steering, would you be happy.

I'm not saying its a bad phone, all I'm saying is that this year the manufacturers are chasing at least 3 Gb ram, > 3000 mAh batteries and 64 bit processing, why would I look at the "phone of the year" when it incorporates none of these.

Sorry I refute this claim. The reason the S3 is not getting KitKat is directly related to its limited ram (International version)

I'm running KitKat on my S3, it runs perfectly. Touchwiz is the problem, not Android.

when i'm referring to touchwiz, i'm referring to the launcher. maybe mistakenly so. but i use nova launcher on my note 3.

Fair enough, its a good argument.

But the manufacturers all compete and try to improve over the others achievements in setting the benchmark.
Apples 5 series phones set the benchmark already last year in terms of technology capabilites.
Surely then its biggest competitor should be looking at improving on those achievements in its own interation of flagship devices.

And Windows 8 uses less resources with optimised memory management, but it will only be realized on the latest/newest chipsets.

Yeah, I'm questioning your assumption that manufacturers are indeed chasing after those specifications this year. The very fact that Samsung did not meet those specifications seems to call that assumption of yours into question.

Time will tell - you may very well be right. But at this stage, I will not be too quick to criticise these specific aspects of the S5.

No, wrong. Manufacturers do not really share their ideas about their next big flagship. By the time the phone is announced, the manufacturer is most probably already in the process of designing the next phone for the following year. It is impossible for a manufacturer to act on rumours 6 months prior to their big reveal. No manufacturer is going to act on Samsung's reveal to suddenly be better. If they so happen to be better, it might well be because it was in the pipeline say 12-18 months ago. Your argument is unfortunately invalid

12-18 months may be a valid time frame for car manufacturers but not the mobile phone industry.
Things happen much quicker.
This is the exact reason why I said I feel they may have launched the S5 too early.

Apparently that is the US model of the S3. It is still to early to say if the international version will get it or not. Some list from Poland got published and now everyone is up in arms because the S3 is missing from it...
