This. I wish my S4's screen was slightly larger. I love real estate. Brilliant for browsing and games. The S5 isn't for those that don't like big phones, and should stick to smaller iPhones or Sx Mini's.

Yes, and it sticks out of the top of my shirt pockets which bothers me :p

I don't want a Note 1 in my pocket, I got a 7 inch tablet when required. When I don't, the S2 suffices. But I would also like a more responsive S2, so hope the S5 mini fulfils that need.

I like the idea of the Note 3, but I know it won't fit in my pockets nicely and Cyanogenmod isn't geared up for the extra stylus features. The rumoured 5.25" screen of the S5 sounds perfect.

Hmm, I'm sure it'll be a nifty device. The S2 got a lot right in terms of design, I think. Also had one until it got nationalised. :(

The only thing missing on the S2 is a flashing notification light.

Had to constantly check if I have missed a call or message, now it's pure bliss on my Note 2.

I love the notification light. On my S3 it was super bright, to the point where you saw if light up a room in the dark. On the S4 it is a lot more subtle but bright enough to see what notification it is.
 
I want to get the Note 3...you guys reckon I should wait until the announcement of the S5 for contract prices to come down or will they only come down when the phone is released?

The Note 3 does not compete with the S5, it's different devices.

Only way the Note 3 price will come down, is when the Note 4 gets released.

And it might still be a while before that happens.

Note 3 pricing wont change for a few Months. Maybe June/July when they have specials on it. If you wanted a cheaper phone the LG G Pro 2 might be more your vibe then. S5 as stated, does NOT compete with the note 3 in any way whatsoever. Just because its a new samsung phone, does not mean all samsung phones will come down in price.
 
Thanks for educating a noob guys... I'm currently trying to decide on a new phone as my contract finished in January. Been looking at the S4 or Note 3...R600 pm is my budget. So not sure if I should wait or not for the newer phones...

Wait for the newer phones. It's pointless taking out a two year contract for a previous gen phone if the next gen is literally weeks away. The Note 3 is still the flagship of the Note series though, and will remain so until October.

Look, if your options are the S4 or Note 3. The obvious choice is Note 3. The specs on the Note 3 far exceed the S4. But then again, you cant compare the 2 :p. Essentially if you read up, where i as well as several other members have posted, the only reason we are waiting for the S5, is to see if the specs comparison are worth it. If the S5 has 3gigs of ram, 2.5ghz quad core and a 16Mp camera and a 2k resolution (This is the MAIN feature). Majority of us will go for it. If the specs are similar or just a small step up from the Note 3 or the S5 does not have a 2k resolution. I will get a Note 3 purely because of the screen size. More real estate more viewing Space.

Note 3 is a stylus predominated phone hence you cant compare the 2. The only comparison we are trying to draw here is, how much of a step up is the S5 from the Note 3 and does it warranted the loss of the Screen size. As i said, if the S5 does not have a 2k resolution, then i personally dont think the specs are that much noticeable from the Note 3 (from what we've seen on benchmarks) and i would rather have screen real estate.

No true. When i got the Note 2 last year the month before the S4 was released (not announced) the price droped about R50 on contract when the S4 came in the month after.

This was because the Note 3 was announced. I was working for vodacom at the time. They announced the making of a Note 3 and providers dropped the Note 2 in order to move their units. There was massive stocks of the Note 2 in SA as far as i was aware. The S3 outsold every phone and not many people were keen on the Note 2, hence the dropping in price. This time around the Note 3 is an actual decently specced phone and is a lot better than the S4.

My mistake then. I will remain hopeful that the price for the Note 3 will drop, even if it is by a few Rand

Waterproof is by no means a gimmick. So many accidents happen like getting caught in the rain, spilling a drink, dropping it in the toilet ;)

For me this would be a big positive since I also ride a bike and have been caught in the rain a few times.

Unlike Apple's Touch ID scanner, Samsung's version will require you to swipe your finger across the home button while keeping it flat. This ought to be a more accurate method of detection that isn't as easy to fool, but it might not be as convenient. The sensor will also require you swipe fairly fast to get a good read, and moisture will negatively affect its accuracy.
Up to eight fingerprints can be stored by the device, with at least one being tied to unlocking the phone. The others can supposedly be used for custom shortcuts and to keep private information secure. That second bit will be thanks to a new feature apparently known as Private Mode (or Personal Folder in some contexts). You will be able to place apps, widgets, and files in a special container that can only be accessed with a fingerprint or another secure method like a pattern or PIN. Your prints could also be used as a password replacement that automatically fills in account details in the browser. The same trick should work for verifying your Samsung account as well.
SamMobile has a good track record with Samsung leaks, so this is sounding solid. Additionally, the way it's described sounds very much like the Samsung approach of packing in as many features as possible.
