Samsung Galaxy S5 tipped to come with gold option

There seems to be no stopping the current gold fever just yet as the Galaxy S5 is now tipped to be coated in gold as well. This is if the leaked document from Vodafone's treasure trove is something to be believed.

For one reason or another, there has been a rise in gold-colored smartphone variants of late. Or at least talk and rumors of them. Perhaps it was a trend started once again by Apple and the iPhone 5s, which offered a model that just had a bit of gold on its back plate. Android smartphone manufacturers soon followed, like the LG G2, the Samsung Galaxy S 4, and both the HTC One and One Max. And it will probably keep on going.

According to a stealthy photo of a screen from Vodafone's inventory list, the carrier will be offering a gold tinted version of Samsung's soon to be announced flagship. It is quite notable that this listing has appeared now instead of later, whereas other gold editions came more as an afterthought.

Of course, given that the Samsung Galaxy S5 hasn't even been unveiled yet, we're not sure how much gold will be in this model. Honestly, some of the gold smartphones we've seen have been more tastefully done than others. Others are even gold only by name or by trimming. If you're a fan of Samsung and this glittery offering, then you might have something more to look forward to when Samsung finally reveals the Galaxy S5 next week at MWC 2014.

All the cameras in the video look like normal point-and-shoots. Huge bezel, lanyard etc. The S5 will suck donkey balls if it has a 1.5" lower front bezel.
 
Spigen case claims compatibility with 'Galaxy S5' and 'Galaxy S5 Prime'

Rumors about the existence of two Samsung Galaxy S5 models show no signs of slowing down. The latest info on the subject comes to us from an Amazon product page for a Spigen case. This case — which looks great — claims to be compatible with both the “Galaxy S5″ and the “Galaxy S5 Prime,” adding support to previous rumors.

Of course, product pages for cases don’t necessarily guarantee that said product exists. Spigen may not know the official name of the second model, or it may just be preparing itself based on the rumors that it’s heard. The fact that the case was posted to Amazon so soon is also strange since there’s no publicly-available information about the Galaxy S5.

If these rumors do turn out to be true, Samsung will have to educate people about the differences between the two models. Most people don’t even know the full name of the Galaxy S4, instead referring to it as the “Galaxy” or the “Galaxy 4.” With multiple models of the Galaxy S5, it could be even more difficult for some folks to understand the flagship status of the “Galaxy S5 Prime.”

Galaxy S5 case listing shows likely release date for new handset

The Galaxy S5, which should be released at MWC, is expected to bring on some changes for the Samsung Galaxy lineup. Via Amazon, we may get a few more hints at just when we’ll be able to have our hands on the handset as well. We also see some interesting design cues, if the displayed image is the S5 as we’ll receive it.


From an Amazon listing from Spigen, we see a Galaxy S5 that is a bit more squared, but not quite as much as the earlier mock-up we’ve seen. This time around, we see a much more Samsung-y design, though some differences are noticeable. The speaker grill looks to be a nice metal on both the black and white variants, which adds a touch of class.

The home button also looks a bit textured, which would be new. It could be an affectation of Samsung’s alleged fingerprint scanner on the home button, too. Whatever the case, if it ends up textured like that, at least Verizon would have a hard time branding it — so that’s a positive.

Perhaps most telling is the availability. The case is in stock on April 15th, which gives us an idea of when the device will be available to us. Spigen cases are usually available right around the time of launch, and they are usually pretty lax about revealing handset details. We saw this with the Nexus 5, where their cases pretty accurately displayed some hardware details ahead of launch.

The fact that they played the "water" part in slow motion may be an indication. I am honestly hoping that it is waterproof. It would beea very useful feature for me

Perhaps there will be a "premium" waterproof version and a normal version. I hope water resistant doesn't mean it will not have a removable battery.

I don't remove my back cover since I don't have an extra battery or a memory card so this will not affect me that much.

The thing i do like about the removable battery is that you don't have to send the phone in if the battery giving problems, you can just replace the battery.

The waterproof S5 will probably be like the S4 active, hopefully more attractive. I can't recall if the S4 active has a removable battery?

[MWC 2014] Impressive Spritz Speed Reading Technology Launching On Samsung Galaxy S5 And Gear 2

Just in case you were worried there wouldn't be anything intriguing or unexpected about Galaxy S5, check this out - Spritz, a new company (launched February 23rd) looking to "reinvent reading" will be coming exclusively to the S5 and Gear 2 by way of an email app. From Spritz's news release it isn't clear whether this will be the default app on the phone or a preloaded one, but the technology itself makes it interesting either way.
Spritz works on the principle that the human brain focuses the eye on one central point in every word, and from that point it can read and comprehend the word. Where this point (the "optimal recognition point") lies shifts depending on the length of the word, so the ORP is in the letter o in "word" but in the letter i in "positioning," as seen below.

By aligning every word according to its ORP on a display Spritz calls a "Redicle," Spritz claims "inefficient eye movements associated with traditional reading" are eliminated, thus making it only a small challenge to read (and comprehend) at speeds up to 500 words per minute. The other half of the equation is rhythm. Spritz has fine-tuned the speed of their speed-reading tool to allow for even easier reading.

Spritz says that beyond the initial partnership with Samsung, it hopes to get its speed-reading tech on more devices (Glass, anyone?) but the company doesn't plan to do all the work itself - Spritz is offering the Powered By Spritz program for developers to integrate the tech into their own apps.
Overall, Spritz is very impressive, and it will be interesting to see how the Redicle translates to a mobile screen. We shouldn't have long to wait now.
