Makes no sense, I've often flashed Samsungs to totally new CSC's (and back again) not in the original grouping without issue. Why would it be any different?

I suspect you are reading more into it than there is, TBH, your whole post doesn't sound very different to how you flash with Odin on any Samsung...

I have an S7, originally on Vodafone, unique CSC of VOD, I've flashed it to BTU (BTU, CPW, DBT, ITV, KOR, NEE, XEF, XEO, XEU), I've then flashed it to H3G and then back to BTU, and then to XEU, back to BTU, then to O2U and back to BTU, and then finally to EVR and eventually back to BTU.

as long as you flash all 4 files and use the CSC file (so it wipes the phone) it has always been ok.
 
Can anyone confirm availability of the S8 in any Vodacom store in Cape Town, Northern suburbs? Don't mind Cellucity. More specifically, Bellville/Tygervalley. Thanks. Been to Canal Walk, and both Vodacom stores were out of stock. Didn't check Cellucity there though.

Correct - makes no sense, which is what I attempted to convey.

The point of my post was to highlight a change in behavior when flashing CSC for an S8+ through Odin, which impacts the result you will get after flashing - the flashing process remains the same.

I downloaded the BTU firmware you linked earlier to and saw that it contained an OXM CSC group instead of a single BTU CSC, and this thread over at Sammobile then caught my attention. It references different CSC codes, but may explain the situation better than I did.

Has anyone dunked the phone in water? Thinking of doing it when I get mine, if something goes bad, 7 days out of box failure.

BTU has always contained a multi group of CSCs, I've become a bit sceptical of that forum after reading a few threads, they're claiming the same thing with regard to the S7, yet I've flashed from other CSC's to BTU many times.

He's talking a fair bit of nonsense in those posts, WifiCalling does not transfer and I've done exactly what he's claiming is is impossible, my S7 was originally VOD and I flashed it to BTU (and many other CSCs and back to BTU).


So, unless Samsung have changed everything with regards to flashing CSC's in the last 2-3 weeks I'm going to treat anything he says in that forum with a large pinch of salt.

Maybe I'm wrong and everything has changed, maybe not...
 
I seem to have an issue, when my always on display is on and somebody phones or skypes it doesnt show on screen and i can answer the call. Is there a setting i have done wrong. Enjoy having always on display showing.

Go into the settings ,application manager and find dialer and make sure notifications are enabled, also in the lock screen settings make sure it's not set to hide notifications.

I'm very interested in getting an S8 soon. My question for the owners on here is which service provider provides the phone with no added apps or bloat? I have been off contract for so long, and using custom ROMs on my ageing S3 that I would really not like to see a brand new phone have Vodacom apps folder or something similar. I know that apps can be deactivated usually, but if there is a service provider that doesn't fiddle with the phone I would prefer that.

Vodacom adds their apps and usually a horrible custom red Vodacom boot screen.

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think Telkom and Cell C don't add anything, also I think the Telkom deal is probably the best of all the providers.
 
So I played around with my friend's new S8 yesterday. Not really liking the fingerprint sensor. I thought it would be easy to get used to but using it with my left hand is a bit uncomfortable. Maybe it takes a bit getting used to it.

It was also very easy hitting that useless (in my opinion for now) Bixby button whenever I took ot out of my pocket or trying to adjust volume with one hand.

A question for all new S8 owners. How is the Bixby button and the fingerprint sensor for you. Admittedly I only spent around hour and half with it. Are you using the fingerprint sensor to unlock? Can you at least disable the Bixby button for now?

That was my main gripes with the phone. Maybe I'll just hold off a bit before deciding on new phone. Pity we are getting the bare minimim LG G6. Would've gone for that one

There are already multiple apps that let you remap the Bixby button.

I can see that it's maybe extra inconvenient if you're left handed, granted I'm only receiving mine in the next few days but the S6 I currently have and the S8 is almost the same size, the S8 is 5.5mm taller, the S6 flash is in exactly the same spot as the S8 fingerprint reader and I can reach that no problem one handed.

I've also heard people say having a case makes it easier to find the fingerprint scanner and avoid the camera, especially the UAG cover because it has two slight bumps separating it from the camera.
