Samsung Galaxy S8

Had a little incident last week.
Was sitting in a meeting with my S8 connected to my Dell Latitude for a top up charge. Next thing I saw faint smoke coming from my S8 and a burning smell. Immediately thought omg Note 7 battery round 2. I immediately disconnected it and shut it down. I took a closer look and it appears that parts of the USB to Type C cable connector that I bought from Takealot had melted in the actual phone socket. Worst thing was that I could see some form of damage inside the port. I was in JHB on business and needed the phone asap so I took a chance with an original samsung cable and thank goodness everything seems to be working still.

Anyway, watch out for 3rd party cables. Who knows what would have happened if I wasn't right there. This was the guilty bugger:

edit: What also pisses me off is that I left a polite but frank negative review for the cable and I see that Takealot chose not to show the review. Whats the point of a review system if they are only interested in good reviews. Will no longer base any buying decision on their reviews.

Eish, sorry to hear that man, at least you caught it before it did any more damage.

see it too. maybe they just hide your own reviews from yourself :p

I'm sure Samsung will switch it if you explain them just say you were using the original charger

No, it's not normal.
On all my Galaxy
devices, re Note 2, 3, 4, 5, S8 plus and Note
8 my overnight /sleep drainage has always
been between 1 % to 4 %,
re +-, 7 to 10 hours sleep period.
Then my data, wifi etc is off
eg if my battery is 100% before, then after
sleep period it's normally 96..97 %.

However with S8 with AOD on , yes your battery drainage will be more.
When i tested Always on display overnight
i was using +- 7/9 % in total, battery power over sleep period.
I would install a app like
eg GSam battery from Play store,
and monitor your usage.
Bottom line
15 % drainage overnight / sleep, is excessive.

This phone is really fragile. Cracked front screen a while back with a not too serious drop. Phone was on the bed and I lifted duvet causing it to take a tumble too the tiles. I thought it probably landed awkward and put it down to bad luck.

Last night it slips out my pocket while I am sitting down on a chair. Falls 500mm to floor. Back glass cover now cracked too.

Seriously Samsung????

What's the going cost to fix these glass covers? Could prob a my do it myself but would like to keep IP rating same without affecting warranty..

Yes I'll get a cover.
