If any of you are like me in that you want a shiny new Android tablet. The problem is that we torn between the should I buy one now and get what is available or wait just that month to see if product x would come into the market.
In a way I actually envy iPad fanboys as they have a simple option, get the iPad for cheap or pay more for an iPad 2. Get WiFi only or add some 3G and the last one is how much ram can I afford now. Hey that is simple, esp if you see what is hiding behind the Android floodgates.
One thing Android always say is they have choices, and boy do we have some. We started off with the large phones like the 7” Samsung Galaxy Tab running 2.2 and some no names R1000 and below tablets with resistive touch screens. Then came the Motorola Xoom, the 1st Honeycomb tablet. Again some people jumped the choice train and got there "Hello moto" as fast as they could.
Today open any technical/review site and you see some large name Android device coming, and the problem is, they all heading to the shops like the next big horse at the Durban July, all fighting for those bets on who is going to come out on top.
So in Android world it is do I get 2.x or Honeycomb, what screen size, what CPU, how much memory.
Do you want WiFi/3g with that sir? Do I want to back Toshiba with there Honeycomb, or go for a ASUS Eee Pad Transformer that has a keyboard dock and has a split personality between Netbook and Tablet. Should I go for what is out now and just get that Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v that Vodacom/MTN can give me or import my new Motorola Xoom. Should I wait for the Acer Iconia A500 or Dell's new 10” or maybe I don't care about the market and go for Archos 10” internet tablet.
All I can say is the flood gates are about to open and if you don’t like making decisions, go get an iPad where someone does it for you, else get ready to do allot of reading.
Just some short list as a Example:
Acer Iconia A500
Asus Eee Pad Transformer
Toshiba Tablet
Motorola Xoom
Samsung Galaxy Tab
7”/
10.1/
10.1v
HTC Flyer
I dont have links but if you shop around you can get a MID Android for under R1000 or even go shop at
Archos Remember on low priced devices you get what you pay for.
So after all that, only advice I can give the OP is if you want something, go read the reviews, and if nothing in them puts you off, and you can afford it, get the device. Just remember there will be a better device next month and it will be cheaper. The only question is how soon do you want a tablet and what do you want it for.
