Hey, does anyone know when we would locally see the newly released Samsung Gear VR?

Need some VR goodness for me S6 Edge plus :)

I was very disappointed when I tried this out, I really expected a much better display for a consumer version

It's the same phone running the display so how was that going to change exactly?

I mean a consumer version VR device.

Doesn't matter if its a phone or whatever end of the day this package is a consumer VR experience and it was not up to scratch. I found DK Oculus a better experience

It's a completely different thing.

This is a cheap and nasty cop out to plug the hole before real VR lands.

You can't compare the two.

Depends on how recent your smartphone is. Best hardware = best vr experience. Lesser phones will render poorly. You need something in the line of a Galaxy S6 and up.

A phone is still never going to compete with a PC or PS4.

Even the S6 is still a cheap trick compared to the real deal.

But these phones have these QHD displays for what? It can only be for VR you can't see that res with the naked eye.
S6 577 ppi

Average human adult eye can't see a difference above 300 ppi.
So for normal phone usage you're just kind of wasting resources running that high display.
Now when looking at it through the vr goggles obviously the high ppi should be key, but its still not good enough in my opinion.
I'm not comparing all the other features of VR just the display here, and I think samsung have missed the goal with this version of VR.

Of course. Anyone else expecting anything different is naive. Like I said; best hardware = best vr experience.

Well, the reviews I've been watching say something else. It's not Oculus Rift amazing but it's pretty damn nice.

Just got mine delivered. Bought it from www.geewiz.co.za for R1598. Not a bad price as I heard the recommended selling price was supposed to be R2000.
