Samsung i780

Some downloads for the I780, they all work perfectly in the standard 128DPI mode. no need for realvga.

Just copy the files to your phone and run them.

For opera there are 2 files, one is the cab install file, the other a skin file. the skin file makes opera compatible with the 320x320 display. install the cab file, then copy the skin file to your main memory, "application data/opera 9 beta/skins" directory and overwrite the old file.

if you get stuck just ask...

please please please tell me how I can turn OFF delivery reports on my i780?

I could have sworn when I first got it they were off ... then I think I turned em on ... now I find them frustrating and can't turn them off :(

wish i could help you, but i am using threaded sms and it changes all my sms menus so even if i tried to explain my settings will look completely different to yours.

but, what you can do is open your inbox as if you are going to send a message. click menu, choose options and scratch around there and see if there isnt a box called "delivery report" or "request reciept" or something like that and untick it.

please please please tell me how I can turn OFF delivery reports on my i780?(

start, programs, messaging

then menu, options

then click on SMS/MMS

tick off 'request delivery notifications'

then ok

should work.

it is not a cooked E1 rom. it is a rom released by Samsung, he only removed a few items. it is a wm6 rom. everything on it is standard, the only things missing is java and opera. but those you can manually add yourself if you use any of them.

no need to backup your rom, you wont need it again. just follow instructions, flash russian rom first, then PDA second. it is really easy and takes about 15mins for the whole process.
i posted a review of the plugin there, it is really cool and works like a charm on the I780 320x320 display. there is an weather auto update bug that some have complained about, but mine works fine, probly doesnt affect south africa ...

I did the E1 ROM upgrade over the weekend. Works 100% and phone is now more responsive. Using Hinavigator and so far so good - better than PointUI and HTC home versions.

Amaedict, thanks for all the help!

One problem though: Opera 8.6 started closing down automatically since yesterday just after opening it or after navigating to first page, it also did this when I was on B1 ROM, so it's definately not the ROM. I have installed Opera 9.51b previously, works well but it resets all sounds & notification settings every single time you run it, resulting in having to setup all notication settings every time you want to browse. Now there is apparently a workaround by doing a reg hack, but it comes down to still having to run this regedit every time after using Opera 9.51b...

** Any ideas / alternatives / fixes welcome **

you are most welcome :)

yes the sound notifications / opera bug is annoying :(

the wm6.1 upgrade is due out in the next 4-8 weeks, guess we just have to sit back and wait.

or maybe try this new build of opera : http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=75885&keyword=opera

i can't try it right now, im not at home, will try it in the morning. if anyone else wants to try it and post their results that would be great :)

if that doesnt work, we can allways SPAM the opera dev team for a fix :) :p

..:EDIT:.. UPDATE :

according to this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409258&page=32

they discuss the opera bug near the bottom of that page.

It's a bug in Opera, not this ROM. Opera 9.51b1 will disable notifications on any PocketPC you run it.

BTW, someone asked how to track changes on the registry. I use CeRegEditor (a PC app). Connect your PocketPC to the computer with ActiveSync, run CeRegEditor and connect, take a snapshot, do whatever you need, then compare registry with snapshot.

seems it is a opera bug and not the rom, so guess i'll try the new opera link above, if that dont work nothing we can do but wait for a fixed version. :(

YET ANOTHER UPDATE :

ok, i found a sort of temp solution for the problem, notif-blinker. It blinks your LED with set colours ( blue, green and orange ) etc when you have messages, emails and missed calls etc .... you can also set your keyboard to light up with the led.

Not the perfect solution, but for now it works pretty well, atleast you can use opera and still see when their is a incoming message.

Download link for latest version, this version has a gui : http://www.zenyee.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/zenyee-notif-blinkercab030809a.zip

since 0.3.xxxx you no longer need to meddle around with registry if you are not comfortable. It comes with a configuration UI - which you can access from \Program Files\Zenyee\Notif Blinker\Notif Blinker Config.exe

I've reflashed my phone back to the E1 ROM and will probably wait for the official WM6.1 before reflashing. There seems to be to many issues with EFN's 3.3XG Reloaded ROM

I downloaded and purchased SPB Mobile Shell and am really impressed with it. Far nicer than either the Samsung or the HTC Today plugin.

One problem that I've encountered is that I'm battling to try & get a GPRS monitor program to work. I've tried both SPB and Smartphone (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=6023) and neither seem to record the data usage. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts ?

nope sorry, i never used any program to record my data connection.

But, if you really like spb mobile then you might like this little app.
http://rapidshare.com/files/138941997/spbwatcher.CAB

it is a little app written by some guy on XDA, what it does is makes your spb mobile shell your today screen. in other words spb mobile is allways on top. its really tiny, maybe give it a try ?

I've downloaded and am using quite a number of the SPB apps.

Mobile Shell, Backup, Weather & GPRS Monitor.

All quite nifty and seamlessly integrate into Mobile Shell.

hey all

was wondering, has any1 installed skype on their i780?
I downloaded the file 'skypeforpocketpc' and then tells me its not a valid ppc application...? kinda annoying.

They have released Windows Mobile 6.1 for I780 on XDA :)

rom is standard, only things removed are Opera 8.5 and Windows Live messanger.

What a nice find   :D

Just thought i would share it here ...

BTW : if you use opera, download 9.51 from here and install it yourself : http://rapidshare.com/files/137119862/Opera.rar

The only problem I have with all these ROM's, is that every time I flash my phone I have to reload all the additional programs I use and then setup my phone all over again :-(

But I guess it has to be done. ;)

Anyone know where i can get a i780 free on a talk 240???

yes a few.

My phone over the last two days has frozen 4 times and just switched off for no reason twice. It was expected since this rom was ported from a another model and they have not really done anything to it except remove 2 programs and add some drivers, it has not gone through any testing stages or anything. The bad part of it is that my phone is also my alarm clock and it froze the night before last and i was 2mins late for work due to the alarm not going off  :o

And i started my day like Neo in the matrix with the boss giving him a speech about his attitude and re-evaluating his priorities etc ;)

Apart from those two issues everything else runs like a dream. I'm giving it one more chance, if it freezes again i will be going back to the E1 rom and wait for official wm6.1 upgrade from samsung in October which is around 4 to 6 weeks away. Besides, Samsung has promised some nice added goodies which they keeping secret, so atleast we know wer'e not just getting a stock rom :)

anyone else experience stability issues with EFN's rom ? i have considered the fact that it could be software that is clashing since i have around 20 apps installed, but im too lazy to probe right now, will have another crack at it over the weekend.

....:: Update ::....

I allways wondered weither i made the right choice choosing this phone, my original choice was between the I780 and the HTC diamond / PRO.

Well, today i was at a guys house fixing his pc and he just picked himself up the new HTC diamond phone and i got to play with it a bit.....

All i can say is that i definitely made the right choice choosing the I780, it is miles ahead of HTC..... :p

So my day ended and weekend started with a smile :)

@sm68

I tried fring, but it takes over your whole phone, it sets itself to auto start with windows, it also like to randomly dialup 3G connection and it seems to drain battery life faster than i can swop them out. Nimbuzz is a far superior program and runs all major messangers including skype. they have a java version availible ( which works well with I780 after some headaches and tweaking ) and are suppose to be releasing the wm version very soon, i'd recommend you keep and eye open for that.

ALSO IMPORTANT FIND :

If like me you have been unable to find any screen protectors or pouches for your I780 and have suffered minor or severe scratches and are very pissed off about it, well, i have stumbled onto a nice solution online :p

it is called Displex, it only costs R99 and it is designed to remove scratches from cellphones, ipods etc , and best of all it is stocked localy in Cape Town.

Here is a link to the product page : http://www.igear.co.za/productinfo.aspx?productID=6684

And here is a link to a youtube video made by a user to show how well it works : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5y6vRq8fF4

So all is not lost

Anyway, i placed myself an order for a tube and will test it myself, i have also ordered a screenprotector from boxwave in the USA as well as a cleartype case, cost me a fortune but i cannot handle anymore scratches on my phone no matter how minor they are.

Here are some pic's of the case i bought :

O, and on a happier note, i just bought a nice laptop yesterday for a reasonable price, hope to get it by monday http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/Item.jsp?Trade_TradeId=8897621

So basicly i will be broke for the month of september. but my phone will look new and i'll have a really nice looking notebook ...

Thanks for that amaedict; which phone did you choose when downloading Nimbuzz, I don't see the i780 listed?

Nice laptop, enjoy.:)
