Hey guys
Thought I'd give those who are interested a heads up. V3 of EFN's WM 6.1 cooked ROM is available.
Thanx Maelstrom for the posts wrt the updates! Let me know how V3 runs... I'm VERY tempted...
Going to Vworld today to do their ROM upgrade, but doubt whether it will be anything later than C1.
Probably a stupid question, but if one should take the handset in to a service centre to do a firmware upgrade after doing a cooked version yourself, will they still do it? (and will the official one still install and work?)
ye dood brilliant little phone this. and very fast![]()

So how long did this take and what level of firmware did they load?
ACP, I was initially skeptical of upgrading thinking I was going to brick the phone but everything went smoothly.
Just make sure that you back up your contacts 1st.
Then Garmin Mobile XT, is it as simple as re-installing it from the bundled SD card after the ROM flash? Does it pick up its registration/activation status online?
After dropping my Touch Diamond in the toilet on Sunday night I went out and got an i780 based on the comments here. Been a long-time WinCE/WM user.
i780JCHB1, CE 5.2.1944 Build 18547.0.7.3. Installed my SPB apps: MobileShell2, GPRS Monitor, Phone Suite, PocketPlus, SPBTime2, and then MS Reader, Pocket Stars, Pocket eSword, HandyMap, Google Maps, etc, etc. SPB Phone Suite doesn't support 320x320 so off it came. PocketPlus stopped drop-down menus from dropping down, so off it came. Other stuff seems to work fine, though haven't yet tested everything.
Raesteyn is right - the i780 needs to be hard-reset a few times to stabilise. Wonder why - it's not a WM thing but probably the quirkiness of the i780 implementation by Samsung. Another irritating lapse in Samsung quality control: you can't change the default live.vodafone.com Home page in Pocket IE, at least in the i780 I have (from VodaShop Sandton City).
The phone seems to pull cell signal better than my last three HTC devices (Kaiser, Diamond, Prophet), probably because of larger antenna. Oddly, it can't pick up the wifi at the outer limits of my home setup whereas all the previous HTCs did. Win some lose some.
I haven't yet mastered the mouse-thingy but will take the effort to learn it, and also try the 4-way touchpad config.
Dialling with small number pad will take some getting used to. I have dik vingers.
Overall this device is very well spec'd, and a real bargain at the price, especially compared to the latest HTCs, and even more so when you consider that Garmin Mobile XT is bundled (I paid R1100 for GMXT on my Kaiser, from Leaf). It comes with an extra battery and a case-charger which is pretty nifty. Car and mains charger also included. I really hate the proprietary USB and earphone connector as now I have to carry extra cables rather than a standard mini-USB.
Now to carry on customising ... easy on PC screen with MyMobiler. Fiddling is an endless ritual with these marvellous little devices, so I'm expecting another day of zero productivity.
Desperate for WM6.1 ROM update.
