Samsung losing to Apple

This is not really new info. Samsung has been accused of channel stuffing for while now, and they were caught out a year ago. And when you channel stuff, then the drop off has to come sooner or later
 
I reckon they need to take the Apple/Chinese phone strategy and market their new phones as new and revolutionary whilst being obscure as to why, but hyping up something rather irrelevant to the point where people queue for 3 days to get their hands on it.
 
I think you guys are overthinking it. Samsung's latest products don't push the envelope in any way whatsoever and are priced at a premium. With the competition in the market it seems inevitable that marketshare will be lost as a result. Apple certainly lost marketshare once they started coasting along.

If I was buying a phone atm I'd go with the LG G3. So much more value for money than the S5.

When has Apple lost marketshare? It's marketshare is the highest it has ever been

Once again we see this commentary while Samsung's last three Galaxy's were identical in looks with the major changes being in software (from the third party Google) and processing power which hardly makes all that much difference in the real world.

If anything Samsung haven't been obscure about it at all, they've been way to transparent about the fact that they haven't really done much of anything.

Not to mention their top of the range phone is still made from plastic which makes it feel like a cheap piece of rubbish compared to the more premium Apple products from even two generations before.
 
This article is rather... sensationalist. Samsung lost 2% market share, yet there is no indication that it actually lost said market share to Apple.

Also, they forget to mention that Apple also had a drop in market share of a similar proportion to Samsung, in Q1.

Come now MyBB, we expect better than this.

Apple (and Samsung) are very skilled in both convincing and appealing to customers what is perceived as premium, and successfully charging a premium price for their product. Of the Plastic vs Glass/Aluminium feel was such a differentiating factor, you should see massive uptake for Xperia devices at the expense of Samsung, which is not happening.

I get the best I can when I need it.


I have an S5 at the moment due to the "free" gear2 that came with it but in 20 odd months who knows?

Sensationalist? They had a 24% year on year profit drop due to weakened demand and overstock. That's compared to Apple's beating of expectations and nearly 17% growth of iPhone sales. Marketshare is always a misleading metric but it's not that inaccurate of an article.
 
I don't care about brands or operating systems, anything that does the job.

Only thing that is not negotiable is that it must be dual sim, and have at least 64GB memory, or the ability to add that much.

At the moment I am using a S4 Mini dual sim, great phone. I also like the size, 5" screen is too big.

Of course it is. "Samsung losing to Apple" is misleading, when discussing lost market share. Especially when the benefactors of that market share are not Apple.

On all the other metrics- fine.
 
It comes down to price.. people are starting to ask why...

IN SA, the top end phones are starting to cost R500 to R600 a month, what does the S5 or iphone do that the cheaper phone can't.
The average cell phone user does not regularly download apps from an app store.. as long as the phone can whatapp, facebook, twitter, view emails and make calls they are happy.. why spend all that money on a S5 or iphone whne the cheaper phone does the same.

The only people that see value from a high end phone are you more techy savy user

Vodacom is currently having a special, get a iphone 4s for R200 a month.. I know of a few people who had S3 and S4's who went for this offer, because they were not prepared to pay the premuim price and are very happy with there new phone, it does what they want and dont miss the samsung phone at all

While Samsung still makes crap like the Galaxy Star/Pocket, they will bleed low end market share to the Chinese.

Also to what you want.

I've got a friend with iPhones and - although they know it's a basic entry device into 'smart' phone - they're perfectly happy with it because it phones, Facebooks and Whatsapps. I think if you realize it's not a true smartphone, you'll have with it.
