Samsung Omnia HD - i8910

A member on another forum recommended this holder for i8910: Ebay Item number: 150373902606.

The quality and functionality levels are very high apparently.

It is not available locally...I ordered mine last week from ebay and am waiting for delivery...Hopefully I get it by Friday.

Hi guys,

Dunno if you've resolved your MMS problems but I am on MTN and I'm able to send and receive MMS perfectly fine.

And I am connecting on HSDPA (or 3G+ as the phone displays it).

Anyway, here's a decent review on the phone:

If you get "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Webpage" just refresh until the page comes up, it seems to be a problem with the site in general.

Ok I had a strange problem this morning. Usually I leave my phone on permanently as I use the alarm to wake up and various other reminders. When the phone's batteries dies then I plug it in to charge.

Now the phone was OFF so I plugged it in as usual and left it to charge. Normally the "battery on charge" indicator shows up on the screen!! This time the phone tried to switch on!! but after awhile it seemed to "hang" so I left it for a few hours then unplugged the charger and pulled the battery out as mentioned in the booklet?

Again the phone tried to switch on and again it "hung" this happened several times, so I just left it OFF for a few hours. I then switched it on and viola! it booted up and is working fine??

anyone else experience something like this??

seems to me that there maybe a problem with phones software?

Hi Spiff,

I haven't exactly had a problem like this, but there are some users including myself, that experience hanging when putting the phone on and sometimes also when trying to charge it. Not sure what is causing the problem but when the memory card is removed before turning it on it alleviates the problem, and its fine when i put the memory card in after the phone's on. Maybe it's too much for the phone to initialise at once.

Well sounds like the same sort of thing, will try it next time, thanks.

Another amusing quirky thing I found out the other day :) when the phone went off at 7am, I tried to hit the snooze button, but seen that my right hand had fallen asleep :D this proved to be impossible even though I was pressing the button :confused: however when I pressed the snooze button with my left hand it worked first time:confused: I'm not sure how these touch screens work? whether they work off heat / electricity or whatever?:D

another thing I discovered yesterday is that my YAGGI external aerial does not work with the samsung?? I'm in a bad reception spot - on the limit of 2 MTN towers so MTN came out and installed the aerial free of charge! Pity:( It used to work perfect with the wireless Huawei dongle & nokia6110, giving full HSDPA reception.

That must have been quite amusing - but yes I think the screen works on heat or some sort of sensation cos if u try touching it with something inanimate it doesn't work, or at least not when I've tried - hence the fact that it's a capacitive screen made to work with your fingers :)

Strange thing about the aerial, maybe you should phone MTN to query it with them? I don't see why it wouldn't work on a newer phone???

Ok just an update: thanks to liberty1988 for the suggestion. I removed flash card before charging and this time after a few seconds it went straight over to charging mode. Then after charging I switched on the phone and this time it booted up first time!

then I switched off phone and installed flash card and switched on again! this time I had the same boot up problem? So looks like there is something fishy with the charging / flash card & boot up!!

Also I found that my battery life has improved considerably when charging without the card in! perhaps while charging AND trying to boot up at the same time it does not get a full charge!

nothing a firmware upgrade can't fix! Any news on an upgrade?

Anyone loaded OPERA MINI on the phone yet?

Hi Spiff, it's a pleasure and thanks for the feedback - glad it worked for you too!

Seems the phone has problems initializing everything at once, very strange, but like you say its nothing a firmware upgrade can't fix, although unfortunately I haven't heard anything further about an upgrade either.

My battery life is quite good already because every 3 charges or so I switch the phone off and let it charge overnight, but next time I will try taking the memory card out too and see if it improves it!

Haven't loaded Opera, never been a big fan but if you do please give us your feedback on it!
 
installing Opera Mini 4.2.13918 - not much to do other than to goto OM website & install.

Firstly I had a network problem which meant I could only get EDGE! I then discovered a setting on the phone that allowed 3G & 3G+ so if u only see edge on yr signal strength meter then try the following:

menu - settings - connectivity - network. here make sure "NETWORK MODE" is set to "dual mode" then goto "OPERATION SELECTION" set this to Automatic.

I then installed OM direct from the Internet using the phone and this was a breeze. OM works well, much better - much faster than whatever the phone comes with??

I have read that OM is not yet supported on the i8910 and I did not find the phone listed on OM web site.

Although I seldom use the phone for Internet it's still handy to be able to in a emergency.

in all I happy with OM as is!:cool:

is it just me or does samsung have compatibility issues with apps??
