I'm considering one of these two in the next week or two.

Which one would you choose over the other and why?

I'm in the exact same position as you. I'm leaning towards the S4 Active. I like the waterproof and the HD display.

I'm also shopping right now. I have read that the display, the protective glass and the processing power on the S4 are all a cut above the Note.

It's a no brainer. They S4 is far more powerful device with a full HD 5" display. If you really want a Note, wait for the Note 3 in October.

Getting a Note 2 now is a bit short sighted.

The note 2 still beats the S4 in terms of battery life. But a bit oldish. Wait for the note 3.

I agree with the others in that you should rather wait for the Note 3, if you can.

BUT- even as a previous Note 2 owner who loved the device- out of the two, the S4 is the better purchase.

Yes, the Note has the bigger screen, which makes a considerable difference towards watching videos and playing games. The S-Pen can be rather handy if used well. In terms of raw performance, it is not that far behind the S4 (benchmark performance is meaningless anyway).

The S4 is the more future-proof device however- 1080p screen (to be fair, the difference between this and 720p is not that great), higher clocked and more modern chipset, the warranty cannot be ignored, and in the case of the Qualcomm LTE version, great custom ROM support.

If you don't like the S4- you can easily sell it and get the Note 2 anyway...

OK, like I said guys. I had to make do with a phone which could only call and SMS.

I got the s4 (i9500) :)

Yes you do. Trust me. Yes Gorilla Glass is strong, but it aint destructable. A fine grain of sand on your finger will ruin the display. Ive seen a few S4's with micro scratches on the display
