Samsung vs. Seagate

I have only had 1 seagate fail and it was fixed and still works (old 8GB model).

In my cupboard you will only find dead dead IBMs WDs and Maxtors - they just can't take the heat when they are stacked. My seagates on the orther hand runs perfectly for years now - they have about 4mm clearance between them.

Samsung rocks...

But, the new Seagate 7200.12s are a big improvement over the 7200.11s (which gave Seagate a bad name). Much smaller and cooler. ;)

Previous Samsung 7200.11 500GB ran at about 32'C

My new 2 x 500GB 7200.12s at about 28'C

My Samsung 320GB OS drive at about 24'C...

If Samsung were that good? won't IBM, Acer, HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, (& on & on) be using them?

I bought a Samsung and I have Seagates - the one thing you notice is that the Samsung drives run cooler and quieter.

I still prefer Seagates.

noticed that this is not under the kalahari deal of the day ... how long u think this offer will last??

Same her...was also wondering about that. They seem to change their prices almost daily on a few things lately....

Panasonic use Toshiba and Hitachi HDDs.

I'm running a 1 TB Seagate, 1 TB Hitachi and 1 TB Samsung (this one) atm in a Mac Pro. No problems from any of 'em. Each with 32MB cache.
For external using a Fujitsu 500GB USB powered, WD 160GB USB, and Maxtor 160GB USB. Also using mains powered Maxtor 320GB, Iomega 500GB and Seagate 500GB. The only disappointment was the Firewire 800 RAID 0 500GB LaCie Big Disk Extreme - that died once and needed RMA and then lately crashed and lost all data although the HD still seems to work 100%.

According to 5yr Google research heat actually does not kill hard drives and they have a boatload of HDs to study over 5yrs.
