Samsung Wave GT-S8500

This Wave is an amazing little phone.

We have a demo model here at work that we are developing for. I fell in love with it.

The build quality is fantastic and it has exactly the same specs as the Galaxy, but is soooo much cheaper (weird, hey?).

This phone is going to be a huge hit for Samsung. It is priced right and it delivers.
 
I've been reading that the Wave has major RAM issues (namely it easily runs out and shuts things down) is this true?
Are you able to buy paid apps in the SA samsung store?
 
NO problems,nothing wrong.
You can buy at SA samsung apps store,gives you prices in Rands(which is nice).
 
random question, if I was wanting to simply purchase this phone for full cash, what do you guys recommend would be the best place to get it? I have a vodacom contract at the moment, but phone is broken and not up for renewal for about 1 and a half years still :/ I just want to know where I would get the best and most reliable deal. I think the R4769 or so at vodashop is a bit too much maybe? Anywhere better? Online? I am in CT btw if that helps :P

I was in a hurry to get it it as every shop i phoned had limited stock and they sold fast.
I bought for R4800 from Vodashop,but could get it for R4000 if i waited week or two for stock from another supplier.Thing is i wanted it and not one moment have i been sorry.Would have paid over 5K for it easy.
 
Import it yourself from Europe and you can get it fir 3.5 or less including shipping and taxes
 
Got one of these for my wife over the weekend and I'm pretty impressed so far. The display is amazing for any kind of multimedia consumption and the processor means things zip along quickly in all applications I've tried. I was worried about the battery life initially when it dropped from 100% to 65% in about 4 hours, but I then discovered I'd left the GPS navigation software (GPS works well, btw) running the whole time! I turned it off and the battery's performing much better - only lost 4% overnight - so things look promising there.

There are a couple of things that annoy me, but most probably relate to the learning curve on the phone. One thing that does get to me is the way that the "close all applications" option shuts down all the widgets you've put on, meaning that you then have to go through the tedious process of re-installing each time.

Yip you can delete demos and pictures that came with phone,no problem.
Full apps as in?
The gps i had to buy Route 66 maps(Southern Africa),but i had to buy that on my iphone also.
Cost for it was R576.
Other things like youtube,facebook,twitter,mini dairy,asphalt 5, plus some xtra came with.
Also the media player on it is very nice as ALL my files(movies,music) i just drag and drop and it plays all.

Which apps did you have on your iPhone? Did you ever check out the US App Store?

The Wave surely doesn't have things like Instapaper, RSS readers, and all the other cool apps iPhone/Android OS do?

Also how is copy/paste and is there multitouch?

LOL! My 6 year old Nokia has an RSS reader! iPhone fanbois... gotta love 'em!

Also, I love how copy and paste now becomes a must-have feature :) How long did the iPhone take to have it? And how much did Apple fanbois defend it when it didn't have it?

Yeah you don't get the iPhone, it's all about the way that it's done, and the richness of the App Store, compared to other phones. When they did implement Copy/Paste, they did it way better than anyone else (IMO), and I never used an iPhone before OS 3, so I don't care. I mean I could browse the web on my phone before the iPhone too, it just sucked in comparison. There was no browser that could render full pages as quickly and worked so well.

I'm not an iPhone fanboi, I'm open to whatever. If I find a better phone than the iPhone I will use it.

Looks like a pretty decent phone, especially for the price. The interface seems to be a mash-up of the iOS and Android, but quite good. Browser is webkit based and seems decent (with flash support too)

I still don't know if it does multitouch or copy/paste.

It does have multitouch. Zooming is done with the standard pinch-gesture.

Not sure about copy and paste, though. Will have a look on the dev model we have.

This is really confusing me the Wave seems like an awesome little phone. I was dead set on getting the Galaxy S ,but now this got me thinking.

The Wave's pro's: Solid built,not as large as the Galaxy S, led flash and I'm certain the battery wil last longer. Also I can get it dirt cheap on a MTN 100 contract.

The Galaxy has a larger screen, Android and overall cool factor against mayby battery life, plasticy design(back cover) and more expensive:confused:

I was this close to buying the Wave and got the Galaxy S. I decided against the wave because of the Bada operating system, there are so few apps and they are growing at such a slow rate, its rediculous! Android is brilliant and the bigger screen on the Galaxy S is amazing too. Take navigation, over R600 for Wave!!! Android has some free options and decent paid for abour R200... That's just one example.

And with regards to plastic design, it really isn't an issue. The Galaxy S is rock solid and most people will use a cover in any case. Also, there will be third party metal backplates very soon and that is the only part of the Galaxy S which is plastic...

Copy and paste is done via touching the text and then dragging with your finger to select text, then u click on COPY with the pop up tab. After that u just hold ur finger on a blank space and select PASTE.

Im still looking for a free app to use the LED as flashlight...
 
WOW!!!
This phone is so NICE!

Getting GPS signal takes like 10 seconds,on all my other phones it took forever.
Even my Garmin takes longer.
This realy is an awesome phone,people that is in the market for a phone should realy have a look at this phone.
Have not found anything i dont like on it,no wonder its the highest scoring phone on gsmarena.

Take GSM Arena user scores with a pinch of sault.

The N8 has close to a 83 000 user ratings, but it hasn't even been released, yet!

Their staff reviews are excellent, though.
