Samsung Wave GT-S8500

Might be,mine(mtn) also very old but works fine.Worth a shot to check with latest SIM.

Enjoy the awesome phone you got!!

Cell C have the wave for R280 p/m including 100 anytime minutes. Should be great with their new 3G network too.

I got my samsung apps working, I just did the step I was unable to do on my SIM with my wife's and after that mine worked fine. Downloaded Shift = Awesome. After a bit more than a week with the phone, no problems at all. And listening to music with the provided headphones is pure bliss. Only thing thats got me a bit worried is the time the GPS takes to find satellites...

I just saw the Wave in the Cell C shop. The real phones in the stores are great! Cell C was packed and the Vodashop across the way was completely empty.

The OS is great but from a quick browse it seems like it's only on 1 phone (i.e. the Wave) at the moment. Maybe a bit too bleeding edge for me.

Can you get it at cellc on a higher anytime package and what is its price?

Need some help please guys.

Does anyone know how to make the Nickname (if added to contact) the default display name when receiving/making calls or messages etc. I'm missing the option somehow and a quick Google wasn't very helpful.

Thanks

What are the options for GPS on the Wave? Only Route 66 or can you get Co-Pilot also?

Can someone help me. I recently got a wave, and it is all perfect and I love it. However, there seems to be a problem with video recording...It takes excellent pictures, but the minute it's on video mode idk what is wrong. I have resolution set to 1280 x 720 and I also tried the next one down (can't remember what it is) but for some reason, every video looks really low quality. All videos have that sort of black haze on them that flickers, if you know what I mean. It basically just looks almost like a crap 2mp camera which is recording...Must I change another setting or what? The files are big and all the stats show that the frame width and height are correct but they just look awful...Hope someone can help me!

Thanks

with regards to the GPS and the navigation license. There was an argument a few pages back about whether or not it is free. I just saw this: http://www.samsungblog.co.za/blog/alanshawaf/2010/09/navigation-samsung-wave-0

Basically: lifetime free voice navigation, but only for South africa. Can any of the owners confirm this?

So far, so good for me. I also seem to have got the maps for a couple of neighbouring countries, and I get no warnings about trials or anything else so, yeah, it looks like the navigation is free for us. It makes the phone an even better deal, though I'm not crazy about the Route 66 software - my old TomTom program seemed a lot easier to use.

Of course, I haven't had the phone quite 30 days yet, so I'll let you know if anything changes... :)

I see, so it is probably 'Southern Africa' which would include neighboring countries. If it is a lifetime license for free then that is a decent value proposition considering the license would cost the equivalent of R400 or more on top of the phone. Thanks for the info :)

I got an old version of BADA OS 1.0 , my phone randomly restarts. i then find it asking for my phone lock code followed by my pin code. i am hoping a firmware upgrade would fix this but samsung kies says my phone does not support the upgrade. Its a country thing problem. Have u guys tried upgrading or have a solution maybe?

Thnx

Hi

How is the "business" functionality of the phone?

-Exchange email
-Exchange calendar

Also, sound when watching video?

Thanks

Ok, this is probably going to be a stupid question, but can you use your own tones for sms? Not like D900 where you had only like 9choices, or my current W980 which only plays the first 3seconds of a tone?

Also, will this sync up with Novell Groupwise?
