Samsung Wave GT-S8500

Samsung Wave (which runs bada) is not meant to compete with iOS or Android. It simply aims to bring smartphone features to the current feature phone market. The Wave just happens to have features that surpass many phones that cost nearly double its RRP.

My words verbatim :)

I was this close to buying the Wave and got the Galaxy S. I decided against the wave because of the Bada operating system, there are so few apps and they are growing at such a slow rate, its rediculous! Android is brilliant and the bigger screen on the Galaxy S is amazing too. Take navigation, over R600 for Wave!!! Android has some free options and decent paid for abour R200... That's just one example.

And with regards to plastic design, it really isn't an issue. The Galaxy S is rock solid and most people will use a cover in any case. Also, there will be third party metal backplates very soon and that is the only part of the Galaxy S which is plastic...

Just to clear any confusion:
I got this phone for over a week now. It does have a RSS Reader (within the browser) and GPS voice Navigation for life (Route 66) for free

Does anyone know how much this phone will be on the anytime 750 contact on mtn?

R699, I think.

EDIT: R699 per month, I mean - no pay-in. So a saving of R50pm on the basic contract and you get the phone for free; it's a great deal.

That is really a good price. I am still in between phones but this one is certainly in my top 3 and it is the cheapest one...

Sorry gps (route 66) is not for free, you have 30 days and then you have to buy it.

WOW!
Got the new Bruce Lee game from samsung apps yesterday, its for free and it is very very nice.
Its like playing Tekken on my cell, graphics and colours very nice.
Cant believe a phone can have graphics this good,as good(if not better) than a psp.

According to this brochure it's free on MTN Off-peak 100 at R179pm too. I'm going today to get it on that contract for myself.

I think the hardware in this and the Galaxy S is more powerful than a PS2. It's hard to compare directly since they work differently, but it has more RAM, a faster processor, and possibly a better graphics chip.

You right, the Wave and S has GPU on phone for graphics alone.
The graphics realy is awesome, anyone with a wave should get the Bruce Lee game.

Nope, you still need to buy it.

Are you sure about that? How do you find where your licence details are? When I downloaded the maps through Route 66 Sync, it didn't give any indication that it was only a trial and it shows their status as "unlocked"; it also claimed to transfer the latest licence across. What licence would that be if it was only a trial?

If you go to Samsung.co.za it will explain the time and trial to you and what to do to buy the maps.

Anyone know where's the best place to buy the WAVE on prepaid? Seems like no one (decent) is selling it locally yet.

Thats a nice price, try to arrange with someone in JHB to collect phone COD if you can. That would be best i think.
