SAOL cancel uncapped packages

No, 30GB is 30GB capped. Let's call a spade a spade, there has been enough damage done in the ISP area with loosely using the term uncapped.

30GB capped/unshaped explains the product much better and we all know what to expect ;)

Hi Ponder, dont want to get into any argument about this. I agree, it is 30GB capped.
For someone that was forced to stay within 3Gig per month, 30Gig 'feels' (as matter of speaking) like uncapped.
For me to use 30Gig per month, I really need to look for stuff to download.
I do like the freedom to update if needed, eg OVI maps for Nokia, PS3 update, etc.

When we get TV over Ip or something, this will obviously change.

Moved over to the dark side

I've moved over to MWEB as of the 1st of May. I used to get 2GB per day with SAOL pulling purely torrents. With MWEB (given that it was the weekend), I managed to pull 1.5GB+ per day. Given that it was the weekend and my torrents ran at around 10K during the day and 30K+ at night (SAOL was a constant 20K+).

For me, paying half the price and getting 75% of the speed seems worth it. I will keep you guys posted. I used to do 80Gigs+ on SAOL and hope to do around 60 with MWEB (384k). I will mention that browsing (even while downloading torrents) was quite seemless at any time (even when torrents were shaped).

I feel the same way really. I don't leave my interent on the whole day as I am in a high lightening strike area and don't like go through many lightening protectors a week so i just leave my net unplugged when I am not using it or out. I don't go over 30gb a month but the 'uncapped' offer is still cheaper per gig then other fixed usauge ISPs for unshaped (SAOL is about R10 a gig for 30gb). I like having the freedom to download what I need without worrying about the usage too much. ATM I am happy with them because they meet my current needs.

If you put it in terms of cost per gig it understandable to see where SAOL are coming from here. How are they making a profit at R5 a gig (80gb usage) with all their clients moving to MWEB? They should have maybe notified people earlier of the problem, but if they can't provide you the service you need, at no fault of their own, then why are you so angry at them?

Where's the problem with this?

SAOL chopping all the torrenting pirates is keeping their contention ratio nice and low for us non-pirate people :)

Thanks :)
