Just a heads up to all.

finally decided to take the jump over to uncapped ADSL this month. my Dad signed us up with SAOL on a 1gig package about 5 or 6 years back. i have noticed a decline in the quality of there service over the years and now that ive been trying to cancell it gotten even worse.

Ive been trying to sort out my DSL line so it can be switched over to Afrihost (as bundling is way cheaper). i phoned SAOL support the first time to get the reply that it cant be done. however i could send them an email and they will see what they can do. i though that was cool. popped them an email 4 days later no reply. made sure it was the right address and phoned again. this time around i waited over 30 minutes on the phone only to be told that it cant be done. so this has been happening for a while now.

today i get an email from them once again stating that its not possible to transfer my DSL line over to telkom so Afrihost can proccess the change. but the guy also informed me that they need 1 month calander notice about cancellations. funny thing is i DID give them a notice BEFORE the 1st of this month.

extremely annoyed at this and it looks like i will be without internet for nearly a month thanks to these twats!

hopefully ive saved someone the hassle of signing up with them....

Geepers, are they still going? I had dealings with them (not directly) during dial up days and the early days of ADSL and I must say their service and quality has been sorely lacking.

Move over to a more serious contender, MWEB have great uncapped products (not the cheapest) but consistently the best quality I've experienced myself. Can heartily recommend them!

I havent dealt with SAOL since I did so via Mr Beep (way back when he was still dealing with them).
The service wasnt great, but it wasnt bad.

Oh and you cant really go by Hello Peter anymore, its lost its effectiveness in that people just go there to complain about everything.

Yeah, you have to actually read some of the complaints and take general rants with a grain of salt, but I think hellopeter is still pretty effective. When people go out of their way to complain, it's usually for a good reason. And when the number of complaints outweigh the compliments by a lot, that says something.

And if you see any compliments, that's usually a very good sign, because how many people will go out of their way to say something good about a company? Not many could be bothered.

ive done one complement on a company before. I'm really trying to add a little more! it is nice to be warned about things before you go into any contracts etc for example eMpTyN......

pretty glad that ill no longer be with SAOL. Afrihost have had a huge hiccup lately but my line hasn't been that bad at all... so ill stick it out with them. just hoping SAOL actually wake up and see that i had sent them and email notifying them of cancellation...

I dislike them.. . They offered 384 uncapped accounts for a good deal (had to switch line to them, should have been a warning). Uncapped worked fine for 4-5 months.. then one day.. my speeds were crap. Phoned them.. "o , you used your 10Gig, now you are throttled". Out of the blue, no warnings.. nothing. They just wanted to get people's lines...

I was livid.... and I would not recommend them to anyone.

so it looks like their service is crap at best? i have to phone them up this morning.....

im trying.... seems like they dont want to let me go....

If you're paying via debit order get clarification on the last date it will be run (in writing preferably).

edit: also, don't use the account after the cut-off date otherwise you could be billed for another month.

well it was emailed to them before the 1st of this month so they were meant to cancel for the 30th. And there is no way im using after that. finished my data for this month with some to spare and im havnt touched it since...

In my case they cancel the my adsl line after the notice month and I have to re-apply for the service. That is the reason why I will never transfer my adsl line again to a ISP

was given a long story about telkom billing them if they transfer the line back over to telkom.. in my opinion it is the biggest load of rubbish! all i want is the transfer to be done for whats left of this month so Afrihost can take over it.... how hard is that?

looks like the SAOL email server is also down again... cant send emails to their cancellation department...

they also claim that they did not receive notice of our cancellation...

very annoying!

Have you discussed the line transfer issue with AfriHost?

yup I have. they said they cant do anything until my current ISP (saol) transfer the line over to telkom again. basically nothing i can do but cancel reapply through telkom and transfer to Afrihost. possibility of no internet for the whole of December!

Got a phone call from them. everything is in order. well except for my DSL line but its better in a way to wait a while and get decent service..... time to phone Telkom..
