SARS 2009 Assessment

I just logged into Internet banking now to do a transfer to someone and saw the refund in my account

Exactly 1 month from date of submitting the documents. No IT34 notice yet but the money is in my account

Now what to spend it on is the question :o

Congrats! Hopefully mine doesn't take to long...

2 weeks and counting.

Thanx mate.

They seriously did step up from last year ;) I think it's because I followed up to make sure ALL the documents are there this time round instead of waiting for them. They did pay out R 100 less than they said before the Audit but what is R 100 between friends?

I think the phone call made sure they knew I was on their case. Might be worth a try? Phone them just to confirm everthing they wanted is there....

Dono if that is what worked or maybe just the Month Audit time. Any which way, I feel like a million bucks now :D

Yeh - I did an online query last week Wednesday, they said I must try again in 5 working days - this week Wednesday I'll give them a call.

Really hoping it goes quick, without problems - will do wonders for the transfer duties required next month.

I filed my return on e-filing last week Wednesday evening. Midnight Friday night my money was deposited into my bank account! 48 Hours everything finalised.

i went last week Wednesday at sars in randburg and still waiting...

Me too - but SARS have given me grief each year - so knowing my luck I'm going to have to fight again this year.

This year I've also claimed the most back.... because I'm writing off the S2000.... so they're probably going to do a thorough investigation :(

how so?

xrapidx your tax is complicated

You can write off assets over a certain period when earning commission - not to sure how it works, just based my tax on what my tax guy did last year - expecting a small fortune back this year... :)

ok

Oh **** yes!

I just got a deposit from SARS - R51,000 ... don't know how they got to this amount - but I'm going to celebrate tonight! This is almost whats required for my transfer duty!

I'm on commision - and company deducts nothing except PAYE - so I claimed back around 25% of the tax paid.

That's why you have been asked to submit supporting documentation. I am busy getting mine to them too. I claim vehicle expenses too so I need to submit my log book and all the receipts for my travel expenses (that'll be fun - a year's worth of petrol slips etc!) :)

EDIT : I see further on you say you got your money. Did they ask for your receipts? Did you submit a logbook and travel expenses?
My request for documentation does say :

"Your travel logbook and/or invoices in respect of travel claims"

Yip - I basically submitted a summary of all expenses in each category code, e.g.
2009/01/30 - AEW Auto - Hilux Clutch - R5500.

And a log book of work travel (only 10%)... I didn't submit any receipts, but said in bold at the top that receipts can be uploaded if required.

I'm just shocked at the amount I got back

Out of interest, as per Pitbull - it took exactly a month from initial filling to the return being assessed - Supporting docs requested on the 5th.

Nice, having an expensive car pays off for itself I see, can you subtract the interest + insurance aswell ? Cant they question you and say having a S2000 for work purposes is excessive ?

You can claim the interest and insurance, but only the percentage used for work travel.

Believe it or not, I only claimed R7,300 (10%) for traveling expenses, this includes petrol, repairs/maintenance, insurance, interest...

My biggest area of claiming was home office, and depreciation (on S2000 and toyota hilux). Only issue with depreciation is I have to pay back to SARS when I sell the vehicles.
