SARS E-Filing 2018

Submitted on the 1st. Still no refund.

According to SARS - I have undeclared rental income. I phoned the call center to try and get some clarity. According to them, the money my SO pays into my account every month to help pay rent/internet etc is now seen as rental income.

Surely this cannot be ?

This is odd, I understood that if you are living together permanently you should be seen as "spouses" under the ITA and should therefore have the same income tax benefits as legally married individuals.

Finally, payment reflected in my FNB account earlier this morning.

Final summary:
Submitted 2/07 1pm
Submitted verification documents 2/07 1:15pm
Verification completed letter : Wed 18/07
EFT in today 24/07.

All previous years I was selected for verification and it took 72hrs from filing my return to getting my refund. This year the process has been purposefully slowed right down or they are analysing much more closely (or both) because the time taken is a massive increase.

Received payment this morning (although still disputing an apparent massive amount of interest earned)

Anyone filed on the 1st July still waiting for verification complete letter?

Pretty much exactly the same for me...

Hi, was anybody able to resolve this? I'm still stuck here :(
Many Thanks!

Unfortunately SARS cannot perform a tax calculation based on the data submitted in your return. Please make sure you have completed your return correctly and try again. If this problem persists your return may require manual assessment.

Sars is definitely desperate for money. The wife gets a refund every year and now suddenly she owes them R8000 this year.

I need some advice.

After completing my efiling for 2018, I noticed it all of a sudden show I now have outstanding tax for 2008.

Screen Shot 2018-07-24 at 8.46.10 AM.jpg

But it was only issued to me this year. In the history it shows I started filing in 2009. So it does look like I may have been stupid early on. The problem is, I have no docs from back then, dont work at that company anymore and going into the return for 2008 shows all the values empty on all the forms :(

Edit: From emails, I can see that company only started sending the payroll stuff electronically in 2009.

Had the same issue last year, I contacted my previous employer and asked for my irp 5s. That is essentially all you need. I would try contacting your previous employer/s.

If the company can't help you, go to SAPS, write a sworn statement saying you don't have the IRP5 for that year and the company can't provide it. Submit. I did that for a missing IRP5 I had.

PS they also only told me this year that I had years missing, even after doing everything right before. If they shut up, I'd have been due over R5k less.
