I need some advice.

After completing my efiling for 2018, I noticed it all of a sudden show I now have outstanding tax for 2008.

View attachment 539137

But it was only issued to me this year. In the history it shows I started filing in 2009. So it does look like I may have been stupid early on. The problem is, I have no docs from back then, dont work at that company anymore and going into the return for 2008 shows all the values empty on all the forms :(

Edit: From emails, I can see that company only started sending the payroll stuff electronically in 2009.

You can go to a SARS branch and file the return there. They will have access to the 2008 IRP5 certificates.

Thanks, looks like I have to go in to a branch anyways. Quickly gave the callcenter a ring. The lady said I need to have my bank statements for the year printed, then go with that, and I also at least have the last 8 payslips for the year that I found a backup off, so that should help too. Once I have the statements, need to go to SARS branch to assist me.

My progress:

As a PS: SARS says verification can take up to 60 business days, and Audit up to 120 business days: http://www.sars.gov.za/ClientSegments/Individuals/What-If-Not-Agree/Pages/Being-Audited.aspx

I don't think that page (in the link) has been updated

SARS issued a service charter not to long ago that is more up to date.

I filed on the 12th and was selected for verification. Uploaded all my docs, but forgot to click the submit button at the bottom, after which they wanted to audit me. I then found the submit button when doing the same docs for audit and submitted the verify as well. Here's to hoping they get it done by this weekend...

Not sure if I may advertise, but I can help with personal tax returns submissions or queries. I am a CA and a registered tax practitioner with a SARS practitioner profile so thinking of maybe starting my own portfolio of clients if anyone is interested.

Checked my father inlaw's return yesterday and noticed that his nationality had been changed to Afghan and all identification nrs had been removed. We contacted SARS and they just said he must have been registered that way (we have been submitted via e-filing for the last 8 years) going into a branch to correct it today so apart of them being slow it does seems that there are some dodgy things happening in the background.
PS we submitted on 1/7/2018 and got an verification letter same day and submitted docs on the 2nd. All info was correct until he received an revised IT34 on the 24th...……. makes you think

Afghanistan is often the first country in a list of countries in a drop down selection. I assume somewhere that was set as default because it was first in the list.

Currently this is was I see: Individual Income Tax (ITR12), Completion Letter:

"VERIFICATION OF ASSESSMENT

We refer to the verification of the assessment for the 2018 tax period. Please note that no adjustment has been made to this assessment. However, in terms of the Tax Administration Act the South African Revenue Service reserves the right to conduct further reviews in future if required."

Does this mean I will get a refund soon?
