SARS E-Filing 2021/22

What’s does your SOA state ? As seen below is my SOA - called the call centre to hear why the “refund reversal “- it was mentioned that I had to upload my banking details, ID and proof of address.
( that was yesterday) this morning I called again and it was mentioned that my account has been verified now and payment would take 3 business days. View attachment 1342296
Soa is empty.. No comments

Meh, got a confirmation of docs received 7:30. 9:30 it was allocated, and I just got a sms stating correspondence issued. Problem is the latest correspondence is for the allocation to an official. Nothing further under correspondence. SOA hasn't changed either.

EDIT:

Refund status:
Your Income Tax refund for xxxxxxxxx is on hold due to your assessment being subject to audit for 2022 tax period(s).

Sigh

Same here. Should be 72 hours. Submitted on the 1st July but still nothing and due date is 01/08/2022

Same here.
Documents were required, I submitted, got an ITA34, nothing shows that an official looked at this, but I have a payment date of 01/08/2022

It hasnt been the smoothest process

Eventually got through to the call center, they said that there is no reason for the delay in refund payment, but they will escalate to the refunds department as they are outside of the 72 hour agreement for payment

Sorry to say this but there is no refund department, just like there is absolutely no escalation to a manager or supervisor.

Did you make a small offering to the dark lord?

Pity there's no retentions department where you can cancel your subscription to SARS.
This would be nice yes. The call center staff is actually the same as seasonal farm workers, they get very very little training. The ombudsman is on the case of SARS due to these kinds of nonsense which they keep on coming up with.

I love how SARS calls taxpayers "clients", as if you have any choice.

I submitted my return on 1 July at 8:08, received my ITA34 at 9:00 and my SOA at 9:30 no refund yet. I phoned the call center this morning and was notified that almost all the returns that was submitted on the 1ste, the system placed a "special stopper" on the accounts and that it was a system glitch. The person also informed me that SARS has removed all the "special stoppers" today and money will be payed out within 72hours.

Hope it helps.

Question regarding out-of-pocket medical expenses
I ran out of medical savings sometime last year and ended up using my money to pay for doc fees, medication, etc. Can I claim this or some of it back and if so which code do I use to enter the amount?
2. Would SARS need receipts/invoices of the meds taken and consultation done?

1. Yes you can claim it back but it needs to be more than a certain amount, cant really remember how much. The amount needs to be entered where you enter your medical aid details, below that is the option.
2. Yes they will audit you and you would need to submit all of the slips.

  • If the claims was submitted to your medical aid and then rejected the expenses should be on your medical aid tax certificate. If you didn't submit it to the medical aid at all and only paid out of pocket you will need to have receipts for the expenses to submit to SARS. There are only certain expenses SARS will reimburse (no over the counter medicine). The out of pocket medical expenses needs to more that 7,5% of your taxable income.
  • When you open your return IRP5 that is loaded on the e-filling site, on the first page they will ask you if you had any out of pocket medical expenses with you tick yes, this will open a new "page" were you can fill in the out of pocket medical expenses. The "page will be red until you have filled it in or ticked the no button next to the question. You would no be able to submit your return until all of the "pages" are blue and red anymore.

I had a special stopper last year on my account because I changed my bank details. Once I sent new details and they updated me I got paid in 72hours.

This year Submitted on the 1st as well however still awaiting that refund. Lets see if this system glitch has been removed and we get our refund in 72hours.

It's a % of a % of a %.

Happy reading!

Well the simple answer is to submit all out of pocket medical expenses that were never submitted to medical aid to SARS when you file. They will decide which portion to refund. Only note that you need evidence of this so invoice from health provider and proof of payment. The other thing is if it is a non prescribed medication they will not pay but an easy way out of that is if your medical aid allows you to buy non prescription drugs you pass all those through medical aid and SARS refund a share or medical aid.
