SARS eFiling will move away from Adobe Flash

Not sure how you can count 33% submitted at branch as part of the e-filing. Should be counted as manual as either staff or a physical presence was required at a branch to complete.

I would. They generally capture the return on the exact same system, the exact same way you do at home.

Yes but it was done as part of a manual process, not straight by the taxpayer. In theory it makes the stat useless as ALL returns would be submitted via e-filing, whether done at a branch or in a persons home. The stat makes more sense, how many taxpayers used e-filing directly vs having it done at a branch.

SARS said its current Notice of Assessment forms are built on Adobe Dynamic PDF technology, and Adobe Reader is required to view their content.

“Generic PDF viewers do not incorporate appropriate viewing capabilities. The strategic intent of SARS ICT is to ensure that assessment forms are built on open standards,” said SARS.
So are they moving away from Adobe Dynamic PDF technology to open standards, or do they think Adobe Dynamic PDF technology is an open standard?

What about getting rid of Java? That has been a pain with SARS and my former business's payroll software pretty much always on different versions.

It's only EasyFile that is written in Java. SARS runs on C++, Python, and C#. EFiling, by another Midrand based vendor, is running on VB.NET

Moving from flash to whatever else (assuming HTML5 since that was an "idea" a few years ago) is a massive and expensive undertaking.
