SARS launches its own Internet browser to solve Flash problems

Moan?

Umm yeah no, I expect a basic level of competence from a division/department that is entrusted to collect hundreds of billions of Rands and that uses technology to do so.

They have not shown even the vaguest level of competence by missing the deadline for migrating from flash when it has been very clearly communicated to the world for over 2 years.
I agree. As I said, they screwed up. What would you have them do with the affected forms until they are migrated?

I would have them be open and honest to the public about the fsck up. I would also have them firing the entire upper IT management structure.

Trying to paper over this with excuses and apologies is not good enough.

Fair enough. They're welcome to fire the whole IT dept. How does that help me submit the affected forms though?

Nah... The workers are honestly not to blame for this, for all we know they were raising this issue and just being brushed aside by ignorant and incompetent management

You mean like the years they already had to do so?
Are we criticising them for the screw up in not having migrated everything yet (which is 100% fair) or are we criticising them for finding a stop-gap solution while they fix their migration mess?

Once again. Very few people will ever need to use this browser. Except that some people on this thread seem hellbent on creating the impression that everyone needs this browser to eFile, which will cause aunt Sannie to download it and thereby create an opportunity for scammers to exploit the situation.
No, what will cause aunt Sannie, as you put it, to download this, is that a barely competent scammer will create a malicious browser and distribute it. As has been noted here, the very existence of this pos from SARS is THE security risk here. It's a **** you from an incompetent institution that had how many years now to address this properly?

For me, both.

This stop gap is a disaster waiting to happen. People that don't need it are going to be conned by scammers into downloading a fake version, or at least giving up their credentials.

Any responsible organisation would have implemented a proper solution years ago.

Both, the temp solution is just as thoughtless and backwards thinking as the failure to act on a predicted threat in time.

Both criticisms are 100% fair, stop being such an ANC fcukup apologist..

Developers CD Projekt S.A. says it is working hard on a V0.0.1(Open Alpha) to be released mid 2023.

Please.. you have that alll wrong....

Developers CD Projeckt S.A. say they are working hard on a prototype to be unveiled to the public in the near future (date to be confirmed sometime around 2023)

I am everything but an ANC apologist. Anyway, what better solution do you have given the current situation?
