Exactly. Everyone saying how long it would take to fix it is missing the point. It should never have needed fixing in the first place.

Not difficult but time consuming, then they'd need to convert everything single form, the logic in those forms, the security (client side changes to the js/html) and get them tested.

lol, that's a very 3rd world mind-set - this sort of thing is literally done in a very short time span.

The world is competitive, Africa, usually not so.
 
Yet another **** storm...sure plenty to follow...Happens when your former head of IT, can at best be described as, should never have even gotten the position. Was all part of the Zuma/Moyane strategy at Sars...place incompetency in management positions...to effect collapse, so their ilk could continue their party. Hopefully SARS will be able to regain its former glory, under the new management.

That's actually an interesting angle to look at. Would be funny as all hell if they repackaged stuff and broke the open-source licensing in some way.
 
Yes, SARS screwed up in not getting everything migrated on time. Should they now just ignore this problem until the balance of the forms are migrated? At least they've come up with a (very imperfect) temp fix so those of us that need to can use these forms.

I wonder how many of the super-critics on this thread will actually need to ever use this custom browser?

If this temporary solution works, I would see it becoming the permanent solution so it needs to be pushed back on by the users.

I disagree. All the higher volume forms have been moved to HTML5 already. It would make no sense for SARS to keep the remaining few forms on flash (with this band aid solution) while running everything else in HTML5.

Never underestimate them when their head of IT will come out in public and state that they didn't expect Adobe to actually disable flash, when Adobe have been very open and blunt that that is exactly what they will do and given an exact date thst they will do it.
 
Watch how some dodgy people create dodgy websites where you can download the SARS browser except you get some malware. And people are so stupid out there that they will fall for it.

Get an email from a fake SARS with a link to a fake SARS download site and bam there you go. The email can even contain a link to this article. Man I would have been such a good crook.

Once again. Very few people will ever need to use this browser. Except that some people on this thread seem hellbent on creating the impression that everyone needs this browser to eFile, which will cause aunt Sannie to download it and thereby create an opportunity for scammers to exploit the situation.

Umm yeah no, I expect a basic level of competence from a division/department that is entrusted to collect hundreds of billions of Rands and that uses technology to do so.

They have not shown even the vaguest level of competence by missing the deadline for migrating from flash when it has been very clearly communicated to the world for over 2 years.

Nope, it really is a security risk. An uninformed person gets an email from "SARS" that they will need to download a custom browser for tax purposes. There will be people who download it. It doesn't matter if only a few people need it. The very fact that it exists causes security problems.
