Hi

Does anyone know where I can borrow or buy a sat finder meter to set up my DSTV?

regards
Calico

look at you r neighbors dish, point yours in the same general direction, put the DSTV onto the signal strength info. Move the dish around little by little till you get strongest possible feed! (you need two people to do it - i use walkie talkies). Fasten the dish, recheck .. done.

You can buy them from Space Television and Ellies. The small audio version isn't expensive.

I have tried the method explained by IRG in the past and it was a hell of a lot more difficult than just buying a cheap sat finder from ellies for R200 odd rand. Using the sat finder it took me less than 5min to have my dish perfectly aligned. Without the sat finder it took me ages to get it right.

Ive done it 3 times now - each time I move. Been very easy for me! Maybe cause my wife has had to help me line up my wireless wan so many times! She understands my methods! ;)

Pitty you are in durbs. I would have liked to employ the services of your wife to help setup my antenna for ctwug.

Have a look at this website: http://www.dishpointer.com/
Enter your street address and then select 68.5E Intelsat 10, 7 from the drop-down list. It will show you in Google Earth where to point your dish as well as other info such as the LNB skew angle.

Thanks everyone for the response. Have tried the manual method as described by IRG and I prefer to keep my levels of frustration to a minimum, thanks.

I am waiting for b4 u born to get back to me as he offered to lend his meter to me. I also went onto the dishpointer website that Geezer mentioned and got the settings, will try when I get home tonight. Wish me luck with my sanity if I don't get a meter! :)

good thread this, been pondering the same question as I might need to do a self install at some stage :)

Thanks to b4 u born for the loan of a sat finder. I should have DSTV up and running in no time!!!!! Thanks IRG, fortunately I have a fantastic view from a hilltop so shouldn't be a problem. Will report back.:)
