One of my pet hates as well. Like most guys I channel surf extensively and it drives me dilly. As does the level changes between programs and ads on the same channel.

They probably think ads should be louder so you can still hear them in the loo....

I think Debs did a paper on this at some point.

While I also find this incredibly annoying, it makes it easy to know when the ad break is over when you're busy elsewhere in the house and can return to watch your program.
