I gathered as much. What I'm saying is that your proposed actions will not hit its intended target (Eskom) but rather innocent bystanders (fellow South Africans).
 
These scum at Eskom infuriate me with articles like this. We pay premium rates for electricity and then they tell us we must appreciate there position. Well f@$k them and the bhp billiton pricks who siphon off a good chunk of the electricity supply for a fraction of the cost, even when there plant is not in SA.

Next summer we will be told to turn off our fans because the incompetent d1ckheads will have destroyed another plant through poor maintenance.

The fact that these idiots maintain nuclear power at koeberg scares me even more.

Exactly my thought. They need more subsidies on gas and then the electricity load will drop drastically.
An electric stove top consumes tons of power where a gas one consumes none. so much winning.

I did my part in saving power on Sunday when they cut the power of my area from 7am to 7pm >.<

a 15kg costs me R240 a few months back. For my gas stove that lasts well over a year which makes it much cheaper to run than electric.
 
We had a 5 plate gas hob installed last week with a 46kg bottle. Hoping to see a few years use before a refill.

300L solar geyser installed a year ago. Already seeing the monthly savings from this. Hope the gas hob reduces costs further.

I pay for the electricity I use. That is a business relationship between me and the Ekurhuleni Metro.
I can use as much as I want and rest peaceful in the knowledge that I am a registered and paying user.
I have a reasonable expectation that the Metro will continue to provide me with basic services.
Eskom's problems are their own doing and is between them and the government and them and their customers.
I don't see how their failure to plan and their failure to maintain is my fault.

I reject their insinuations that I am an overly aggressive user or that I am to blame for the current state of the national supply.
Their advertising is simply designed to make you feel bad and to force you to comply out of guilt.
If you want to buy into that psycho-guilt trip, that's your problem.
 
Why target the consumer? (rhetorical) When we all know big industry is by far the largest electricity "consumer".

Even if we cut our usage by 5-10% (note: 5-10% consumer usage, not 5-10% of Eskom's total load) it would have very little impact when compared to industrial usage.
 
Ah the beauty of voting the cANCer into power. Pay up and shut up, you get what the masses voted for.

My monthly bill dropped an average of R1k PM dude. With solar that is. Monitoring usage now to see what the gas hob will bring to the table.

Cost saving is a bonus though. Main thing I was after was having hot water and being able to cook when Eskom does its load shedding carp.

Solar greyser dont help when its grey skies for days or weak winter sun. I remember having to turn on electric greyser in winter.

as for Gas Hob the only advantages apart from faster cooking and decent grilling is you'll be able to cook during power failures. Price of gas is no cheaper. @ Mike Smit what are you smoking? Several years from one 48 kg tank? Two person family only get 6 months at most from 19 kg so if you get a Year you'll be lucky. Not several years. No ways. Also you need to factor in the original investment of cost of burners and cost of line installation what R1300-1500K for Certificate for insurance in case you blow the house sky high so they can see the tank was properly installed.
