They can't.

You're also racist dude, then, if you don't see the inherent meaning in this or
maybe you still don't see it because you can't see it.

I think the concept is too hard for you to grasp here.

I'll say it again, some people on this thread have said:

Religious people are stupid because they chose a religion.
Black people are not stupid because they can't choose to be black.

If that isn't racist I don't know what is.
Black people are not stupid because stupidity is not associated with any particular race.

So you can't say that they're not stupid because they can't choose to be in the race they're in. Saying so is entirely racist, it's saying a race is worse than other races because it would be better if they could choose to be in a particular race AND IF THEY STILL CHOSE TO BE black, they'd be stupid.

Let's cut the racist BS out please, PostmanPot.

re; "Jesus is referred to as a 'tool, Christians as stupid c**nts and God as a 'pervert'," he writes.

I think that's entirely fair.

And the gruntingly stupid mouth-breathers who happen to have been raised by equally primitive cave-people who believe in rubbish about some 'sky fairy' - should shut up and realize they can't burn people alive anymore.

I think you're paranoid. No-one wants to burn you alive. As for mouth-breathers, nice cliched meme use there.

Religious people don't want their god(s) insulted, dude. That's all. Religious people consider their god as though he is part of their family, even more important,
similar to the way patriotic people consider their country. Whenever the US flag gets burned people get upset, in the same light whenever you insult other people,
and you being a bigot with your 'sky-fairy' trash talk YOU are insulting other people. Others don't like it, especially if a charitable magazine they paid good money for does it. I personally couldn't care less - I'm just compelled to reply because I see so many myths in many of the people here that I reply. Anyway no-one wants to burn you. Insulting religious people will get you flack
and beyond that a person who insults shows that he's not too intelligent and a boor to add. Civilized and decent people don't insult each other, it's a trait of childishness.
Good humour, especially in a charitable magazine written by students should be as inclusive as far as is possible and if it can't be the writer should have kept his bigoted ideas for his personal blog or his own newspaper. He didn't have to put his own bigoted opinions in a mass market magazine targetted at average people in this country who also happen to be C-nts by his own definition. Thanks for calling me a c-nt.

You're violating his right to believe in whatever God he wants. What if YOU were forced to go to church. Turn the situation around.

No-one is forced to go to church. Again another misconception. Also maybe rights aren't always violated but to me it's akin to children insulting each other because one is an XBOX360 fan and the other a PS3 fan. Seems very childish.

"Waah-waah, you're stupid - you believe in some fairy in the sky...",
which is not what people believe anyhow, everyone has a slightly different view
of God. The person who says these insults says most about himself, in other words he would worship or possibly worships this way. No-one worships a sky-fairy (or anything remotely similar to that).

Me, racist? Bwahaha. :D You obviously weren't around during my more active days in N&CA.

Religious people are stupid because they chose a religion.
Black people are not stupid because they can't choose to be black.

How on Earth does that equal this?

You can't choose your race, but you can choose your religion. Therein lies the difference! ;-)

Black people are not stupid because stupidity is not associated with any particular race.

So you can't say that they're not stupid because they can't choose to be in the race they're in. Wow, you are reading with way too much emotion. Show me how grayston was insinuating anything racist, please.

The difference is that the poster was suggesting (probably unintentionally) that it's politically correct to insult religious people (because they can choose a religion) but not
people of a given race (eg black) because they can't choose their race. This inherently implies
that one race must be superior in the same way that it is implied in the mind of the poster that atheism (absence of belief in any religion) is superior to belief in a religion. There is no other other conclusion to draw. Imagine the scenario where YOU could choose YOUR RACE at birth. Would it then be OK to bash people of race $NOT_YOURS?

The correct answer is - you can't bash people of race X, eg black, because there is NOTHING TO BASH! Not --- umm it's illegal, we still secretly think they're worse than us but we won't bash them because it's politically incorrect. Political correctness has nothing to do with it. Fact: no race is superior to any other. There is nothing to choose.

Joining a racial struggle does not mean you think the people whom you fight for are equal to you. There are many reasons why people join struggles. You're probably not racist but what you're saying is racist. I'm surprised you do don't see it.

Er...

He was simply explaining why you cannot compare race-bashing to religion-bashing. Nothing else. Let's wait to hear from the man himself. ;)

But you're voicing your opinion no? Your logic dictates that it's not
a racist statement (albeit probably unintended to be in that way).

So please tell me, IF YOU COULD choose your race at birth,
would it then be ok to bash people of other races?

Nonsense. I understand perfectly what you're saying, except no one is coming close to insinuating what you're going on about.

Religion is a choice, race isn't, therefore you cannot say that bashing religion is comparable to bashing race (i.e. Staalbal/Pitbull).

Pretty strange logic there. I'm suprised you don't see the lack of logic in what you said that - unless of course you consider one race to be better than another. Racist statement if there ever was one, maybe your upbringing just
prevents you from seeing the racism, I dunno.

I feel I've explained why it's racist many times already if people choose to ignore the explanation they're just condoning racist statements.

Wow, this is still going....

The UCT vice-chancellor has already apologised. It was in the Sunday Times today. People need to chill out. I think an apology is more than enough, frankly.

It won't make one iota of difference to the content and generally offensive nature of next year's publication just so you all know.

We're looking at statements which imply racial reasoning now ;).

No no, what's pretty strange is over-reading with too much emotion something so simple, and totally over-analysing it and getting way too technical.

That seems like a pretty clear argument to me...

I think you cognitively can't get past a certain step or you have done so but
choose to ignore it in which case... anyway don't want to accuse anyone of anything. The statement is entirely racist.

1. It's given you can't choose your race, no one is arguing that so don't repeat that.
2. It's given that you can choose your religion.
3. It's suggested that one religion (or absence of religious beliefs - atheism) is superior to another religion or all other religions - otherwise there would be no 'bashing' going on.
If we follow the logic of step 3, to make a valid comparison, differing only by
'the fact that you can't choose race' you have to assume that one race is superior to another or all races. If you don't assume this racist assumption,
you are not making a logical comparison, the comparison you give has no logical meaning. It looses all sense.

I'm not arguing against religion bashing here, I'm merely now arguing that the statement is INHERENTLY RACIST as at it's core it implies that one race is superior to another in the same way one religion (or atheism) is superior to another. There is simply no clearer way I can put this.

Please try and tell that to PeterCH.

You're either in denial or you just haven't 'clicked' yet. I'm sorry if the penny hasn't dropped yet. I must be lousy at explanations. To me this is clear as day and night. Maybe you don't see it because many people simply see other races with a condescending attitude. Oh well....
