I recently purchased a product from a local (SA) online retailer. Received a quote and stock confirmation via email. Once I paid all communication from the vendor stopped and all follow-up emails I have sent the past 5 weeks go unanswered. The telephone number provided either goes to voicemail or a receptionist that says she will give a message to "management". I have still to receive as much as an acknowledgment.

I order a lot of stuff online, but this is the first time this has happened to me and now I am R3.5K out of pocket.

What stands one to do in a situation like this. Any advice will be appreciated.

First point of order is to tell us the online retailer.
It is a JHB based retailer of medical equipment. I will provide their name at a later stage as I first want to ensure I follow all the steps and not open myself for any liabilities. Transaction was via EFT and I have reported this to my bank's fraud department, but not sure they will be able to do anything.

School Fee's unfortunately, What you could do is post the Name of said "retailer" so hopefully the next person see's it and doesn't get scammed.

share the site pls its pretty easy to pick up if its a scam, you can just chalk it up to poor service if its not a scam

nothing you have said really opens you up to any liability at this point

If it was not an "immediate" payment. Bank should be able to recoup.

I like the latest trend where the scam sites offer full payfast like credit card etc but if you go on, sorry its only EFT , sneaky f***.

If this has been a fraud, my advice would be to go to the Police and report it.

A lot of people will say don't waste your time - know first hand of two incidents of fraud cases with online scams and in both the police arrested the individual and in one of them they got their money back

Maybe someone in the area can go and knock on their door, they're in Edenvale judging from their contact page.
