I think this is a sign of things to come.
My old high school used to operate off a dial up 56k modem, which obviously became totally useless as the school and the computers grew. Unfortunately, adsl wasn't around back then, and isdn was useless.
A couple of years ago they finally changed to something else, and they went the iBurst route. I had advised them not to, adsl was cheaper and more efficient, not to mention reliable, but some hotshot on the governing body who "knew computers" over ruled everybody.
From what I was told recently, when their contract ends next year, they are going to switch to something ele. iBurst top ups cost way too much, and they are going through cap like mad every month. Maybe by the time next year, they'll be able to get something from Neotel at a flat rate.
At my work place, we also have too high a bill every month. Worst is that as a private school we can't apply for Telkom's e-rate thing, that is only for government schools.
Just got to keep hoping.

iBurst is even more pathetic than Telkom. Can't wait for them to be Neotel first victom.

i made the costly mistake of getting into bed with telkom for R600 per month (4MB line and 4GB per month).. now neotel will give me a 512K line and 10GB for the same money.. with 1000 free on-network minutes and some sms as well.. and a free device..
but i'm stuck with telkom for 9 more months..

When I signed up for the Telkom ADSL DIY, I got the same crappy modem and same crappy service and same crappy fee as you did.... but no contract
They asked me... "contract or month to month?"....

We're with Telkom Business and when I phoned them to ask if we can have a 12GB cap a month, they told me it's not possible.
The most they could offer me, was a 4GB cap, otherwise the credit card will have to come out.

They just don't want the admin. All they have to do [in theory] is to click on create new cap and "cap at 12GB". This is pretty much what a cap is. Even distributed ADSL (one DSL line for a block of flats, etc) has this.
