Science Must Fall? - UCT Fallist discusses Decolonization

The UCT Medical Faculty released a statement earlier this week that they wish to decolonise the medical training and pharmacy training curriculum. With 80% of South Africans utilising African Traditional Medicines (according to the W.H.O), there is a push to forego evidence-based medicines for locally grown herbs and psycho-spiritual standards of care. This will fundamentally change the way people are treated and experience medicine - they claim.

Link to this statement? That Facebook page doesn't really tell us anything.

I wonder how her day is going, must feel pretty bad to humiliate yourself on such a large scale and have thousands of people mocking your intellect on social media.

Or maybe she's so convinced in her point of view that it's water off a duck's back.

I do not think this one has access to the internet.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C Clarke

At least now with racist colonial science out of the way, everything can now be explained with magic and the spirits.

Gravity? It's magic.
Lightning? The spirits are very angry.
Sunlight? The spirits are shining their light upon us.

Edit: Holy crap this is exactly like 5000 years ago.

Gravity? The earth sucks.
Lightning? God taking aerial photographs.
Sunlight? For the dishes.

FTFY.

I'll see myself out.

So this person is saying science is some kind off western way of thinking, insulting newton for his findings and then sitting in a building engineered with with these findings after driving to the university thanks to mechanical engineering, using electronics, digitally filming the panel etc.. etc..

This is hypocrisy at it's best.

If you really want to get rid of it, practice what you preach and we'll see how long you last.

Well if the individual does have access to the internet it puts her whole argument in a precarious position surely? after all it is science.

It's not science if she only watches videos of cats.

Well, no serious competition then, to the UK, EU, US, China, Russia, etc from South Africa for the foreeable future

She should probably start an university on her own, then.
Anyway, it's called Newton's theory......it's called theory for a reason. If you find some better proof or formula, then you challenge the theory. You can't scrapp it just because you're an idiot who doesn't understand it.

Sad that a relatively small country that has provided Nobel prize winners like Cormack, Klug, Thieler and Brenner and has produced great cosmologists like George Ellis and Neil Turok has now come to this
