Playing devils advocate:

One of the comments was that the video was edited and thinking about this now its valid. This panel discussion (or lecture) was not shown in its entirety, so there could have been other valid points relating to history and art that could well be relevant.

The video focused on one question that she then struggled to answer. Remember ask the same kind of question to a young earther or a creationist and you might get a similar type answer. Discussions like that will always go off the rails.
She got stuck in the corner and decided to commit to it then used the "safe space" to protect her self from a challenge.

Her point on the guys sending lightning was basically that we automatically disregard these kind of things as superstition which is true. Who knows they might have a tesla coil.

She is completely wrong though because African medicine is being studied closely and they are realizing that in the same way you can treat a psychological condition with drugs you can treat witchcraft and demon issues with a Sangoma.
We are already decolonized and continue to do so every day. Take a step outside this country to see how vastly different our ideas are with the rest of the world.

The fact the 'organizer' demanded the guy who commented "It's not true" apologize immediately or be removed means they have no interest in hearing anything other than the BS they believe.

African tradition is unique in many ways. Why is it ok to study the traditional rituals of other cultures but not african cultures? It's not about debunking, it's about exploring

ok... look the african tradition is a rich one, there is a lot there and to dismiss it all because it doesn't fit into a european paradigm is exactly the point. I for one would be interested in doing MRI scans on sangomas who enter trance states, communicate with ancestors, etc. I would like to see more exploration of traditional medicinal paradigms - there is really a lot to research

surely it would of been noticed, recorded and used if it were true when the explorers got here?

point is it didnt work and help was provided with what does work.

why do you think there has been no scientific studies into these things? its all over the internet. you just need to look for it. here is an easy one.

There may be some herbal remedy in there that leads us to a plant with an active ingredient that helps for some ailment but stuff like the lightning being directed to someone by magic? BS.

I mean it is such BS it warrants as much investigation as me telling you fairies live in my left shoe.

You can't test the metaphysical with science. Those who think you can, and get offended when the BS is pointed out, can go join this girl calling for the end of science.

Like? The guy who dies from a small cut on his finger and went to the sangoma instead of the clinic. He gave him some leaves to rub into the would and he died of blood poisoning.

What about the thousands of people who die of their "aids cures". The mines say that employees will rather go to sangomas than the clinic because the sangomas say witches work at the clinics.

Nothing to study just a bunch of con artist and scammers.

Don't really need to. The miners at Marikana were definitively proven to not be bullet-proof and the incredible death toll from ritual circumcision is recorded each year.

Again, it's BS.
