Screamer ADSL

Are your capped options affected by this network trouble as well Howzit, or is it just your un-capped clients?

Hi Fenix

There are no issues on our networks at all now and our clients are all getting their maximum download speeds.

So what is the consensus about Screamer?
Screaming due to happiness?
Screaming due to sadness?

Screaming due to sadness?

My browsing and speedtests have shown full connection speed for the past 3 weeks.:D
An indication of happiness is the number of unhappy posts you see on this site. When clients are happy they are quiet and when they are not....well just look at what was said about Screamer on their launch but it has been vey quiet over the past 3 weeks.

How is Screamer doing now,Stable?are torrents & Http fast(384)?Thinking of switching from digichilli to screamer end of the month.

Screamer had a issue where one of their routers failed over the weekend, all internet was down for about 4-6 hours but apart from that they are very stable providing good speeds, router shows 330Kbps internation continously.

I use Rapidshare and private torrents and Itunes and all downloads fine, no speed issues, Http browsing is fine (when I slow down the downloads . . .) Can't really comment about ping times as I don't play much online gaming anymore.

Waiting on when they sign up new people to see if services will be affected but seems they have a bit more of a planned approach of late, which is good.

Even after reading all these posts....I still have mixed feelings about who the best ADSL ISP is. I think I'm going to cancel my fixed service with my current ISP and hop between all the offerings with prepaid. This way I'm bound to find something thats value for money.

The bouquet of ADSL ISP services are quite huge right now - from MK@K to IS, WA to DC to AH and even Screamer and not to mention Axxess and others...

Gees....suddenly I feel like Gulliver... LOL

Hey Howzit

Just a question, what is different about the uncapped accounts that makes them cheaper than say a 30GB data account (R690 @384Kbps)? Surely the uncapped accounts would attract all your customers if it weren't inferior in some way?

I'm a bit of a newb in all of this, so any help would be appreciated?

Simple. They rely on the fact that not all users will use a large amount of bandwidth. Thus what they lose on the swings (power users) and the win on the roundabouts (old granny's who just check email and skype for a few gigs).

Its all pretty much the same product.

Does Steam work with Screamer? If so, how good? Can MW2 games be hosted? I have a 384 line and I'm using another 2 ISPs, but I'm considering to move to Screamer

Been looking at this thread and considering taking a month long trial of screamer. I currently have three different ADSL packages for business and family use - time to rationalise for 2010.

I'd be interested to know if the guys here reckon screamer is ready for serious use - early feedback was terrible, but it seems to be getting better. If I take it for a month and it fails to impress I won't come back - so I want to time it right. Will probably take the plunge for a 1MB package in January and then drop some of my other stuff if it works well.

I use mainly http for business from home (heavy use - some automated software that really works my ADSL line), but some torrents etc would be nice for personal use.

Howzit - how quickly could I get a 1MB - I see you were turning people away for a while? Also - will you guys really have all your changes done (proper IP addresses etc) as promised by end Dec?

Anyone else - better solutions - I want proper uncapped, not the half baked IS express stuff.

Thanks!

This thread is much quieter than over at Digichilli.
I'd also like to know if Screamer has sorted out the initial problems? Has the last few weeks been a good experience with regards to int downloads/torrents specifically... anyone pls?

Thanks. Is that here on MBB or on the digichilli website forum? I'll look around.

Thing is for 1MB line on DG you are looking at R3000pm. Am I missing something... What do you get for doubling the price. Guaranteed speed? Doesn't sound like they are doing that great on that promise.

can anyone who has accounts do speedtests and let us know how torrents/skype/etc is preforming on screamer please please.

also if you are getting a external IP address so we can see if you are behind a NAT, etc?

I decided to hold off a little while longer - maybe another couple of weeks. Loaded up with some Afrihost bandwidth for the moment.

Looked at DigiChilli thread that is going mad. Generally still a lot of complaints, so I will steer clear of them for a while at least.

Another question for Howzit.

I saw the term semi-shaped used on the website. I know what shaping is - but the first time I've seen this - the SA broadband market seems to make up new terms every week.

Googled it - got two definitions:

1- Semi-Shaped = Services are shaped during office hours and not shaped during the nights and on weekends.
2- Semi-Shaped = P2P is shaped but other things like gaming are not penalised as per normal shaping.

Which is screamer using. Perhaps Howzit can define it fully - ie - the hours if definition 1 or the protocols if definition 2.

Apologies for my ignorance.

+1

I'd like to hear how screamer is doing now myself.
