Screamer ADSL

I am royally pi$$ed off now.
Can connect and browse to a certain extent. However on accessing my news server, I get broken speeds ranging from 12KB to 0KB.

I have just switched to my Afrihost account now for the night.

Damn them... I get an account this week... and this is the week when they're down the most... My dreams of uncapped are now officially shattered... :'(

How does one know whether the public IP's have been sorted? Previously Utorrent, could not accept incoming connections, however since this morning it was accepting. Also, particular website which refused to load up (I assumed it was because of the Nat'ed network) now seem to work fine.

You'll have to check your router's IP address on the ADSL side. Mine still reports a 10.x.x.x IP, so this is not yet working.

Yea i believe on the Netgear routers there where you set your login is a "test" button. It will show you an IP there. It should be 41.x.x.x (or something starting with 4) and not 10.x.x.x .

Mine also still reporting 10.x.x.x IP so I guess it not yet fixed :(. Was hoping more than anything else :)

Hi All

Yep I did take a quick break but am now here to keep you updated.

We did increase our capacities and did accept a bunch of new applications in the past 2 weeks and we are now fine tuning our systems to make sure that the load is handled competently.

This fine tuning should take about 2 more days then everything should be back to normal.

We have stopped activating new accounts to make sure this stability is achieved in the shortest possible time frame.

Our call centre is still recovering from Christmas down time so if you have a connection that is not performing please PM me your account no and a local speed test to speedtest.net so that I can get a techie to check your connection.

As far as I remember 196.0.0.0/8 and 41.0.0.0/8 are both assigned to AfriNIC to assign. IS, at least, uses 196, so anything starting with 41. or 196. should be a public IP.

Anything starting with 10. or 192.168 are not, though that may also be assigned on your local LAN side, so check where it's assigned.

I finally got through to an actual real person at Screamer today. Goes by the name John. I think I rattled their cages a bit. Gave them about a 20 minute speech on how to "communicate" to clients!!! I moaned like a woman on her worse period... lol (no I'm a man dammit) Especially that they could not even sms or email us about problems being experienced - after 4 days of cr@p. 2 minutes later I got an sms and email apologizing.... he he (any of u get one?)

So it looks like they have upstream comm errors on both the lines (the major and fallback). They couldn't work on it the last two days cause of rain.... and hopefully will have it up by the end of tomorrow.

As for public IP's, no answer on that, John said he would find out and give me a call.

I also demanded that I be discounted for the month for the days with no to pathetic speeds. Will wait for Michelle to get back to me. Right now I am connected with Afrihost, seriously they make Screamer admin and tech look embarrasing! Took 15 minutes and I'm online!!

well im still waiting to hear back from them what the problem is, lastnight the tech guy there side told me i must try reboot my router. why dont they just be honnest about the situation, when they make out as iff the problem is on my side and not theres, that just gets my back up even more.

You suckers were promised pulbic ips, 2 days of fine tuning, all fixed up, .... how long ago? 2 months now... and you're still sticking with this company?
 
Never ending story!

I also spoke to John, in mid December. Nice guy, he apologised sincerely and seemed really keen to get things working. I think Howzit may be John? Just after that everying was hunky dory, downloads and browsing were flying and I even saw lag on Xbox live become ALMOST playable.

Now in Jan it's back to the old story. I can only assume it's the influx of customers...it seems quite plainly to be a lack of capacity to handle their volume. If it wasn't for axxess I'd barely be able to download an Xbox live game update, never mind play online.

Now, as for the helpline, this is unacceptable. Not being 100% trained or clued up is one thing, but straight out lying is another thing altogether. I swear to God, if one of your tech guys tells me ONE MORE TIME to restart my router, I will go on a postal-style killing spree.

I'm getting around 30 kB/s for most of the day, since about 9am. There was a dip about 11:30, but otherwise it's been stable for me.
