So my struggle to get a broadband connection continues.

I live in a complex near Hatfield, PTA with no adsl infrastructure. Pursued various avenues to rectify this but nothing came of my efforts.

Then turned my focus to WiMax. Amobia came to do a site survey but where unable to get LOS. Neotel never arrived after requesting the survey twice. Staff at the Neotel shop initially did not know anything about WiMax.

So now I have found out about screamer. I have read many posts about their service, both good and bad.

I am down to my final options here.

I'd like to get current users views on Screamer, maybe some up-to-date speedtest results too. User feed back from users in Hatfield/Arcadia would be excellent.

I am in the coverage area for their WiFi and WiMax options. Apart from the technology used, what is the major difference in terms of speed and latency?

Any feedback is much appreciated!

According to this hatfield is ADSL enabled: http://broadbandstats.co.za/exchange/THAT

Thanks for the reply. The issue is with the complex not having the infrastructure for Telkom to do an installation. Telkom will put a box outside the gate and wire us up if we can get 50% of the complex to sign up. Now considering they mainly students, the demand is low :( I have been trying to get it done for almost a year now, thats why I want to give Screamer a try.

Watchout for those screamer sharks, poor service and there prices are ridiculously high for a max speed of 1 mbps. Speaking from experience.

Have you approached Vox or iBurst for their input?

Had iBurst a few months back. Speeds were terrible. >1kbps download. I will look into VOX and see what they offer.

Screamer isnt cheap, but im out of other options. ADSL would be the best but that is out of the question. I have heard good things about screamer as well as bad things. Apart from poor service and price, did the connection work at close to the correct speed? what about uptime?

Hi there definitely do not go with screamer they are a bunch of sharks, you could try another possibility which is
Vertel networks they offer fiber connections over WI-FI im not sure if they do these kind of connections for home users
but you could give them a try. Please note NOT SURE ABOUT HOME USER CONNECTIONS but their internet rates are not to pricey

Hi Robin,

We are working on growing our presence in Hatfield. Feel free to drop me a PM and I will send you the details of our service, and an estimate of when we will be online.
