Screamer WiMax

ADSL is finally here ;) Exchange was enabled today :) !!! Now... the only one in this complex with adsl... I feel good....

Guess who im phoning now for cancellation....

internet slower than ever - whens the repair going to be made and will screamer try and improve their redundancy? Now there's a question

The latest update is that the repairs should be completed around 02h00 on Thursday morning at which time we will be cutting back to our main routes and so there might be some downtime between 02h00 and 03h00 tomorrow morning.

Received screamer sms yesterday " Dear screamer client die to international seacom cable repair we are experiencing connecting problems it is expected to be resolved on the 30th"

My speeds are decent browsing is fast and cod6 plays better than it usually does, my downloads speeds are erratic tho running close to 50kb's then it drops for like an hour to 6 kb's.

I just don't get why even now with screamer experience being much better than a couple months back i still get constant disconnects im starting to think it not them and maybe the equipment "alvarion" resets or something because nobody seems to have a definite answer to this. I long the days of concurrent gaming sessions with no disconnects....

It's not the Alvarion equipment, i've used the kit before and currently have Alvarion with my Telkom Wimax and don't have any issues with disconnects. Since I moved from Screamer to Telkom I have had not one day of down time, not one call to support and for once in the last year I can actually reach my cap with a usable service.

Hi Vatevva

Please pm me your contact details and I will get someone to call you.
How often do you get a disconnect when playing?

No, I'm sorry we don't cover Howick

I posted this on another thread where there was some confusion regarding our CPE buy back policy and thought that those who follow this thread might also need some clarification.

The official terms are as follows:

If you cancel your contract within 2 months you get a full refund of the once off rental charge. (This is a great for clients who do not believe our wireless services are the best in SA and want to try them for a month or 2)

If you cancel between 2 to 12 months you get R1200 back for the WiMAX CPE and R600 for a WiFi CPE
If you cancel between 12 to 24 months you get R600 back for a WiMAX CPE and R300 for a WiFi CPE

Hey my connection is still rock solid. Well done Screamer.

For those WOW gamers out there I have subscribed to a little piece of software called WTFast (wtfast.com) which has taken my in game WOW latency to sub 200's to the EU servers.
We are sometimes quick to jimp onto the "ISP blame" bandwagon when things like RAM, processing power, best WOW server for your realm, etc are more often the real cause of spikes in raids. You can test the software for about 20mins so make sure you take reading before and after to check if it can in fact reduce your latency.

Playoff, mine and CDA's conenction went off @ 19:20 and came back around 7am this morning. I must admit everytime i say something good about screamer, something breaks :( Nevertheless the connection is working now damn well.

I post the truth.

According to my logs the tower was out from 10pm to 5am the next day.

All I know is if my servers were out for that long, I'd be looking for a new career.

My connection still crappy as ever, would love it if Screamer could sort out the issues here

Your original post said "Oh god here we go again... tower down"

Implying that it is up and down like a yoyo. I also connect to the Mount St tower and cant remember the last time it was down for a few hours. Anyway I am sure you have it safely recorded in your filing system.

There is a big difference between servers going down and a single tower on a network going down. Screamer have told us in the past that they do not endanger the technicians lives by sending them out to climb towers after dark. When was the last time you had to climb a tower to reset your server.

It must be great to be such a genius.

Don't think I've ever seen that said. Can you link to that post?

Is there a reason not to have redundant equipment or tower diversity?

They have told me they don't send technicians up after dark or during stormy weather - as I understand it there have been incidents in the past.

Regarding redundancy .... couldn't agree more.

We don't send technicians up towers at night because of Health and Safety restrictions. We do have redundant equipment at our towers but our genny was stolen at the Bryanston tower during a power failure and no amount of redundant equip will work without power.
We will also install redundant towers when we deploy our Mobile WiMax network and that will happen when ICASA gets its act together and allocates us our own spectrum.
