Screamer WiMax

Hi Guys

I will look into these issues and come back with an update.

Hi Howzit

Yeah I had same problem a few nights ago, but last night was very good :)

How disappointing. No coverage in Western Cape. Mmm, next option?

I could kick myself for not ordering ADSL sooner!!!! No available ports @ exchange.

After really losing my temper 2 days ago with the helpdesk and phoning some numbers I still had from previous faults I now have full signal and the best sync protocol again.
This was after work was done again on the tower and no work was done at my house.

I hate having to go to the lengths that I had to to get this done, but I am not sorry for doing it. I have had basically non existant service since the great tower hardware debacle

Received a call from a Screamer representative yesterday and noted down what i was experiencing.
Arrived home to stellar latencies again. (260ms international) :)

Brentwood tower . . . . .

Last night tower seemed to be stable but 100ms++ pings to JHB/Midrand. Screamer in the past provided my full cap 90% of the time and only occasionally my speed did not peak and average at 384....which was impressive to me. Now after 'working' on the tower my signal peaks at around 300.....and 280 is average. Is work on tower STILL in progress??? Today as of 13:00 I had to login maybe 15 times to get activity on my connection. It sux

Gary ... if you don't mind me asking.... how/where do you see signal strength?
From your post "It seems like after you replaced hardware on the Brentwood park tower my signal has gone from FULL ( I am 2km from the tower in direct LOS ) to 1/3.
I now only sync on the QPS protocols and am getting packet drops which is why I am getting the lag spikes."

Maybe my disconnects is also relating to weak signal... but no way for me to know?

LOL.... next I'll ask for some tips on loosing patience with Screamer support. I've been away for a week only to return to (IMHO) a still a very broken Brentwood tower.

Thx,
C

Hi Guys

All of you should have been contacted by now and hopefully your issues resolved. I apologise for them and we will be reviewing what changes were made that affected a few of our clients.

Cluney, I will get the techies to call you tomorrow.

Not sure how technically oriented you are so I am not going to post a step by step. The problem is that to go look at the tech info you need to be near settings that can mess up your connection. So do not want someone who has no idea of what they are looking at blaming me for what they do.

Just need to say that the device has configuration pages as well as a performance page that allow you to check your signal strength, negotiation protocol as well see details on where exactly you are connecting to.

If you google the web you will find the installation and config documents for the device.

In the last few weeks I have had the phone put down in my ear, been blatantly lied to and pointedly ignored. So yeah when I finally blew, I blew in entirety.
You do not measure "Signal Strength" as in the speed you get , but rather the quality of the connection to the tower.

Hi Gary

We have been constantly improving our call centre over the last few months so to hear that the phone was put down in your ear is distressing. We tape all our support calls so if you can remember roughly the date and time of your call we can trace it and remove the call agent. In future please try and make a note of the agents name or, even better, the ticket number you are assigned and if your service is not excellent please PM me the ticket no and we will quickly review the call and take the appropriate corrective actions.

Well it depends what you are looking for, wireless, wired and secondly what you are willing to pay.
I have a linksys WRT160N and works pretty well, it has alot of settings that you can adjust. It is a Cisco product afterall

Finally arrived yesterday and i must say this router is amazing and super simple to set up with the screamer wimax solution.

Thanks for the suggestion; more than stoked to connect my phone and laptop to the connection with zero hassles :p

where did you get the router from ?
I am looking into getting a new router for home as mine is packing up :(

Hi guys

I have just ordered my screamer WiMax and let's hope it's not up and down as what I have read here. Unfortunately the only internet services I can get is 3G or Screamer WiMax.
Has anyone here had problems with their screamer WiMax this week?

Been reading this thread for quite a while now and there seems to be mixed feelings about screamer's connectivity but hey if it's my only choice then I have to try it :)

Terribly unstable tonight... I haven't been able to stay connected to WoW for more than 5 minutes at a time...

Yea, very unstable here too. Latency is fine, stability isnt...Not just wow, vent and normal internet are unstable. Its fine and every so often (and by often, i mean 2 or 3 minutes, even seconds sometimes) theres a dc or lagspike.
Hopefully its better tomorrow.

And on a side note...Yay for a 3 minute kill on saurfang HC 17k dps ^^

They installing tomorrow and first thing I read is issues with the connection :(

Let's see how it goes. anyone on screamer WiMax play BC2?

well, my conclusion is, it depends to which tower you connect. I connect to dawnview, now dvw2 tower after the upgrade. and have very few issues compared to some of the posters above.
Play almost each night a few games of MW2, and last night I had no issues at all

i'm in glen marais, kempton park not sure which tower i'll be connecting to.
Thanks for the info :) if MW2 works well for you then I'm sure BC2 won't have issues.
